Juilliard Drama Div Gets $10 Million
The Juilliard School’s new four-year masters-level graduate program in drama is now fully endowed, thanks to a challenge gift of $5 million from the School’s board chair and his wife, Bruce and Suzie Kovner, which prompted gifts from John A. and Carole Moran and The Harold and Mimi Steinberg Charitable Trust. In all the school received $10 million.
In addition to enabling an increase in faculty and course offerings in drama, the monies will provide full scholarships and living stipends for fourth-year students, who will be called Steinberg Fellows.
Students in their first three years may receive the Louise Chisholm Moran Drama Scholarships (named for Moran’s mother).
There are currently eight students in the masters program, and an additional eight to 10 will be accepted annually through “highly competitive” auditions.
Kovner would seem to be the ideal board chairman. In January 2012, he gave $20 million to fully endow Juilliard's historical performance graduate program, enabling its students to receive full tuition scholarships.
