Madrid, February 14th, 2020.-

The Reina Sofía School of Music is holding its fourth edition of the Music and Fun Summer Camp, with the novelty of being able to choose between two different programmes aimed at 12 to 17-year-olds.

The first one, from June 29th to July 12th, Music and Fun Summer Camp, is focused on a cultural and linguistic immersion in the musical world along with sports, languages and leisure activities that balance the intensity of instrumental activity. It is open to all levels and is a great choice as a prelude of the Young Artists Summer Camp programme.

Participants will combine their classes and rehearsals at the School with leisure and sports activities. They will travel to Santander (Cantabria) for three days in order to attend the 20th Music and Academy Encounter as well as a music festival organised by the School. They will also visit important museums in Madrid, making their stay in the programme an enjoyable and rewarding experience. The registration period for this programme will be open until May 31st.

The second programme, from July 13th to July 26th, Young Artists Summer Camp, is aimed at students of intermediate or upper levels with at least two years of experience playing an instrument and previous musical training. This programme is based on a 100% musical programme composed of instrument technique in individual classes, chamber music and “Building an Artist” masterclasses that will help introduce participants to the professional world of music. Those interested may register until March 31st.

All participants will be educated in values and develop skills directly linked with the Reina Sofía School, including perseverance, dedication, teamwork, high level of responsibility and promoting dialogue between cultures through music and art. In both programmes, students will be able to develop their artistic skills with the best professors in the international environment of one of the most prestigious schools in Europe.

At the end of each programme the young participants will perform in front of their own family and friends at the Sony Auditorium of the Reina Sofía School of Music. A successful music show to round off two weeks of learning in an unforgettable summer.

Both programmes provide full campus (students stay overnight) and day campus options. In addition, the Reina Sofía School offers scholarships of 40% on the cost of the programmes to all families interested in having their children participate. In order to obtain them, they must fill out a form, send a video of the possible participant playing the instrument with which they wish to take part in any of the programmes and attach a letter of motivation, to be evaluated by an academic committee. Specifically, for the Young Artists Summer Camp, participants will also need to submit their curriculum vitae including their training and experience.

About the Reina Sofía School of Music

Founded in 1991, the Reina Sofía School of Music is a centre of high professional training considered to be among the leading ones within the international scene. Each year, around 160 students from about 30 countries study in the different departments under the guidance of renowned specialists. Their training is complemented by the presence of great maestros who are invited to give masterclasses. At the School, the stage is considered to be an extension of the classroom as demonstrated by the more than 300 public concerts students give every year throughout Spain as well as abroad.

The School offers the Higher Degree officially recognised within the Bologna European Framework and a Master’s Degree in Music Performance. The study programmes offered by the School provide students a complete education that allows them to place music in its historical context and relate it to other artistic and cultural manifestations.

Her Majesty Queen Sofía is the Honorary President of the School, whose board of trustees brings together public and private institutions around a common goal of serving youth as well as musical culture. An extensive scholarship system allows young people with enough talent access this education, regardless their financial circumstances. The School is the main programme of the Fundación Albéniz, a non-profit institution founded by Paloma O’Shea.
