New position for Steven Sloane

Malmö Opera has announced Steven Sloane as its Principal Guest Conductor and Artistic Advisor, effective from the beginning of the 2018/19 season.

Steven Sloane opens the Malmö Opera concert season on 14^th September 2018 with works by Gershwin and Bernstein. In the winter he will return to lead a new production of Der fliegende Holländer which will be premiered in February 2019 as well as another orchestral concert.

The American-Israeli conductor Steven Sloane has already left his mark on festivals and opera houses such as the Spoleto Festival in Charleston (Music Director, 1996-2000) and Opera North in Leeds (Artistic Director, 1999-2003). He also served as music director of the American Composers Orchestra and principal conductor of the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra (2007-2013). His artistic vision and tireless efforts in the realm of cultural politics are evident in his role as the long-term General Music Director of the Bochum Symphony, which he transformed into one of Germany’s leading symphony orchestras.
