Canta Libre Chamber Ensemble in Concert on May 1 at Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library in Hewlett, New York

Northport, NY - The acclaimed Canta Libre Chamber Ensemble will be in concert, performing music for flute, harp and strings on May 1 @ 2:30 PM at Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library, 1125 South Broadway, Hewlett, NY.
Repertoire for this concert will be works by composers who first charted the Harp Quintet repertoire in France, including Jean Cras’ Quintette, Movement I (1928), and Aria in Classic Style and O Bien Aimee by Marcel Grandjany, along with Villa-Lobos’ Bachianas Brasilerias No. 5: Canteliana (1938/45 - arrangement for Canta Libre by Curtis McKonly), the Andante allegro from Handel’s Harp Concerto in B-Flat Major, Piazzolla’s Oblivion (1982 - arrangement for Canta Libre by Bradley Bosenbeck), Alberto Ginastera’s Impresiones de la Puna (1934) and Jean Francaix’ Cinq Sonatas de Domenico Scarlatti (1971).
Performers will be Sally Shorrock, flute, Bradley Bosenbeck, violin, Anne Roggen, viola, Bernard Tamosaitis, cello and Karen Lindquist, harp.

Canta Libre was founded in 2002 by flutist Sally Shorrock to foster the performance and enjoyment of musical literature specifically written for flute, harp and strings. They have been acclaimed by audiences throughout the Northeast and were featured at The American Harp Society 50th Anniversary National Conference. They have appeared at Lincoln Center, on WNYC radio at The Green Space, at The Music Festival of the Hamptons, Bargemusic, Concerts at One at Trinity Church in Manhattan, WLIW TV, National Public Radio of Long Island, and The Brooklyn Public Library and perform regularly in New York City, Connecticut, Westchester and Long Island. Trained at the finest conservatories, many of the members have performed and toured internationally with appearances at major festivals, including Aspen, Spoleto and Tanglewood.
