Judith Shatin’s Gabriel’s Wing for flute and piano will be performed by flutist Lisa Jaklitsch Westervelt and piano accompanist on Thursday, April 28 – 3:00 PM at Staller Center Recital Hall on the campus of Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, New York. This will be part of Ms. Westervelt’s Graduate Recital.

The composer writes, “Gabriel’s Wing was inspired by the Biblical Gabriel, one of the Archangels, a messenger of God. The music features resonant harmonic series that are associated with the music of the spheres as well as soaring melodic lines that embody images of flight. The flute represents Gabriel, the piano the medium through which the angel moves and speaks.” Read the complete notes for the piece at http://judithshatin.com/gabriels-wing/.

Lisa Jaklitsch Westervelt has performed as soloist in major concert halls throughout the world, including Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall in New York City and the Tonhalle Concert Hall in Zurich, Switzerland. Lisa was selected to compete in both the 2001 Kobe International Flute Competition in Japan and the First Crusell International Flute Competition in Finland (2007) - the sole American competitor at both. In the United States, she has won numerous awards. Visit her at http://www.artisttrove.com/artist/291297810245/Lisa Jaklitsch Westervelt.
