New York Premiere of Choral Music of Judith Shatin Performed by New Amsterdam Singers

Judith Shatin's The God of Glory for SATB chorus will be given its New York Premiere by the New Amsterdam Singers, Clara Longstreth, Music Director on Friday, December 7 at 8:00 PM and Sunday, December 9 at 4:00 PM at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 122 East 88th St. at Lexington Ave. in Manhattan. These performances will be part of the Singers' program Comfort and Joy - six centuries of sacred song, from the Renaissance through Bach to our own time.
The composer writes, 'The God of Glory, for SATB chorus, is a setting of excerpts from verses 3-11 of Psalm 29. I wish to thank Michael Kubovy for his assistance with the literal translation from which I developed the text for this setting. The psalm is about the power, majesty, and eternal quality of God. This setting for SATB chorus, frequently divided into six and even seven voices, was inspired by the power of the poetry, and seeks to sonically amplify its images.'
