Rhode Island's Chamber Orchestra of Barrington Celebrates Ten Years in Harmony

The Chamber Orchestra of Barrington will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a special concert on Sunday, October 4, at 3:00 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Barrington, Rhode Island.

Under the direction of Maestro Luis Viquez, the milestone concert will feature three distinguished guest soloists: violist Boris Vayner and violinists Alla Aranovskaya and Alexey Shabalin. Their artistry and virtuosity will bring a special dimension to this anniversary celebration.

Vayner and Aranovskaya are members of the internationally recognized St. Petersburg String Quartet. Shabalin serves as Music Director and Symphony Conductor of the RI Philharmonic Youth Orchestras, is a member of the RI Philharmonic Orchestra, and is a professor of violin at the University of Rhode Island.

The program will open with the world premiere of Phantasos, composed by Kari Juusela, a cellist in the Chamber Orchestra of Barrington. The work was commissioned in celebration of the orchestra’s 10th anniversary. The program will continue with Aaron Copland’s John Henry: A Railroad Ballad for Orchestra, presented in honor of the 250th anniversary of the United States.

The evening’s featured soloists will take center stage for the final works on the program. Alla Aranovskaya and Alexey Shabalin will perform J.S. Bach’s Concerto for Two Violins in D Minor, BWV 1043. Shabalin will then join Boris Vayner for Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante for Violin and Viola in E-flat Major, K. 364.

The anniversary concert also marks the second year of Luis Viquez’s tenure as Music Director and conductor. He follows Dr. Ed Markward, under whose leadership the Chamber Orchestra of Barrington was founded and developed during its first decade.

As the orchestra celebrates its first ten years, Maestro Viquez continues the tradition of artistic leadership while guiding the Chamber Orchestra of Barrington into its next decade.
