Orli and Gil Shaham at Aspen Music Festival

On August 14, pianist Orli Shaham and violinist Gil Shaham perform Reena Esmail’s Double Concerto at Aspen Music Festival. This concert follows critically acclaimed performances with National Symphony and Virginia Symphony, the two other co-commissioners of the composition. 

Orli Shaham's American Music Catalogue

The Esmail Double Concerto and Dorman’s Sextet are among nearly a dozen works by American composers commissioned, premiered, and or recorded by Shaham. This spring, she released an album of chamber music with musicians from the Pacific Symphony. “American Tapestry,” is the latest in her extensive discography which also includes: "American Grace" (piano music by Steven Mackey and John Adams), Adams’ "Absolute Jest" with the San Francisco Symphony conducted by Michael Tilson Thomas, and "Letters from Gettysburg” (music by Avner Dorman).

“American Tapestry” features eight works selected by Shaham by some of the country’s leading composers. It has been praised as a “remarkable anthology” (Arts Fuse), with the performances hailed as “first-class” (Pizzicato) and "deeply engaged" (Textura).

Orli Shaham was recently the featured guest on WWFM's "A Tempo" with host Rachel Katz. Together they spoke about the new album, the chamber series Shaham curates that inspired it, and the importance of bringing contemporary works to audiences. Listen to the full interview here.

Orli Shaham's Summer Teaching Circuit

Although school is out for the summer, Shaham - who is on faculty at the Juilliard school - keeps her “teacher” hat on. She gives master classes at the Aspen Festival and at Shenandoah University in Winchester, VA, and teaches at Juilliard Summer Music, Kaufman Music School’s SummerFest, and Tonebase Piano Camp.  

Fall Highlights

• September - November: Recitals and recording with violinist Deborah Buck 
  Music by Debussy, Stravinsky, Copland, and Lili Boulanger in New York, Connecticut and Maine. The recording project is a celebration of Kinhaven Music School's legacy of supporting living composers, conceived for its 75th anniversary.

• October 6: “In Clara’s Hands” recital at Merkin Hall
  C. Schumann and R. Schumann recital with special guest Juilliard String Quartet and author of “Madame Composer” Sarah Fritz.

• October 30-31: Milwaukee Symphony
  Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with conductor Kristiina Poska.

• November 19-23: São Paulo Symphony Orchestra
  Chopin Piano Concerto No. 2 and solo recitals.

• January 29-30: Utah Symphony
  Double Concerto by Reena Esmail with violinist Gil Shaham plus David Robertson’s piano concerto “Light forming” with conductor David Robertson.
