Ivalas Quartet’s Audio & Video Recording of Derick Skye’s “Deliverance” Released

Tenafly, New Jersey, June 9, 2026 — The Ivalas Quartet’s recording of Grammy-nominated composer, Derrick Skye’s Deliverance, on the Artistician Inc label, has been released this week in both video and audio formats. The video may be found on YouTube and the audio recording is available to stream and download on multiple platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, and Bandcamp.

Deliverance was commissioned by the Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts for A String Quartet Library for the 21st Century. The world premiere was given by the Ivalas Quartet at Caramoor, Katonah, NY, on February 25, 2024. Mr. Skye writes of his work: “Deliverance is a transcultural classical string quartet that blends Radif and Maqam based classical melodic systems with rhythmic elements from West and North African music. These melodic systems draw on pitch palettes that extend well beyond the twelve tones of the Western keyboard. The inspiration behind the title, Deliverance, originates from the deep sensation of freedom from fear and anxiety that can be achieved by embracing vulnerability, imperfection, and the unknown.”

Derrick Skye is a Grammy-nominated composer, performer, and conductor based in Los Angeles whose work draws from musical traditions from across the world. His music engages classical melodic systems such as Radif and Maqam alongside rhythmic structures from West and North African traditions, studied within each tradition’s own grammar. He was nominated for a Grammy for the album House of Belonging (2023, with Conspirare and the Miro Quartet) and reached #1 on the Billboard Traditional Classical chart with Tapestry of Becoming (2024). Recent releases appear on Deutsche Grammophon, Pentatone, Artistician Inc, and Orenda Records. His work has been presented at Carnegie Hall, the BBC Proms, and the Elbphilharmonie, and he has been a featured speaker at Harvard, UCLA, USC, and beyond. He is Artistic Director and a resident composer of Bridge to Everywhere, a transcultural ensemble that brings together musical traditions from across the world.

Hailed by The Strad for playing with “tremendous heart and beauty,” the Ivalas Quartet has been changing the face of classical music since its inception in 2017 with a mission to enrich the classical music world by spotlighting past and present BIPOC composers alongside the standard repertory. They have championed the music of Eleanor Alberga, Gabriela Lena Frank, Osvaldo Golijov, Jessie Montgomery, Angélica Negrón, Iván Enrique Rodríguez, Carlos Simon, Alvin Singleton, Derrick Skye, and George Walker. Recent performances include Mondavi Center, a month-long residency for the Bravo! Vail festival, the Peoples’ Symphony and a season as resident ensemble of the Schneider Concerts in New York, and they served as Caramoor’s 2022-23 Ernst Stiefel String Quartet-in-Residence. Upcoming performances include the Gardner Museum in Boston and Carnegie Hall’s Citywide series. Their educational work has been supported by the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the New York Philharmonic, the Midori Foundation, and they just completed a year as the inaugural Fellowship ensemble of the Kaufman Music Center.
