Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra Announces Appointment of Violinist Randall Goosby as Inaugural CSO Community Artist-in-Residence

Three-year residency to focus on creative collaboration and public engagement

CINCINNATI, OH (January 6, 2026)— The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (CSO) announced the appointment of violinist Randall Goosby as its inaugural CSO Community Artist-in-Residence. During the three-year residency, Goosby will focus on deepening connections between the CSO and Cincinnati through public engagement and creative collaboration. This new position expands on Goosby’s relationship with Cincinnati and the CSO, building on his appointment as the 24–25 CSO’s MAC Music Innovator, a designation supported by the Multicultural Awareness Council for classical musicians who have a passion for community engagement and education. Starting his residency this year, Goosby will work closely with the CSO’s Community Engagement and Learning departments with the commitment to seek and share inspiration by developing partnerships throughout Cincinnati.

"I am honored to have the opportunity to deepen my relationship with the CSO and the city of Cincinnati as Community Artist-in-Residence,” said Goosby. “During my time as MAC Music Innovator, I was so grateful to have met and worked with community organizations, student groups, and music programs across the city. I look forward to fostering an even greater sense of community and collaboration over the next few seasons, with the help of my friends at the CSO."

Goosby is the recipient of numerous honors and appointments, including being recently appointed to the Juilliard School's Preparatory Division and joins the Pre-College violin faculty beginning in Fall 2025. He was also the recipient of the inaugural Harmony for Change Award by Midori & Friends, which recognizes remarkable young musicians who have emerged as champions, leaders and advocates for the classical music community; the 2022 Avery Fisher Career Grant created to support exceptional instrumentalists in their careers; the inaugural Robey Artist by Young Classical Artists Trust in partnership with Music Masters in London in 2019; and in 2020, became an ambassador for Music Masters, mentoring and inspiring students in schools across the United Kingdom. In addition, Goosby was the first prize winner of the Sphinx Concerto Competition in 2010 and Young Concert Artists International Auditions in 2018.

Randall Goosby has performed with many of the world’s leading orchestras. In the United States, his appearances include the New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Los Angeles Philharmonic. Internationally, he has appeared with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Deutsche Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, and with the Orchestre National de France at both the Philharmonie de Paris and the BBC Proms, amongst others. Acclaimed for the sensitivity and intensity of his musicianship alongside his determination to make music more inclusive and accessible, Goosby is a champion of music by under-represented composers. In spring 2023, Goosby released his debut concerto album with Yannick Nézet-Séguin and the Philadelphia Orchestra, performing violin concertos by Max Bruch and Florence Price. His first album, “Roots,” is a survey of music by Black composers that includes premiere recordings of music by Florence Price as well as works by composers William Grant Still, Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson, and fellow Sphinx and Young Concert Artists alumnus Xavier Foley.

As the CSO Community Artist-in-Residence, Goosby will take part in public performances and events over the course of his residency, including meeting with local students at the Winton Hills Recreation Center and the Dudley-Taft Boys and Girls Club in March 2026, performing during the 2026 Classical Roots Concert and performing at a 2027–28 CSO subscription concert with Music Director Cristian Macelaru. Goosby made his CSO debut in 2023, performing Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto with then- Music Director Louis Langrée. He returned during the 24–25 season as a guest artist under the direction of Macelaru, performing Florence Price’s Violin Concerto No. 2 and Ernest Chausson’s Poème with the Orchestra. During Goosby’s residency as the 2025 MAC Music Innovator, he took part in a dozen community activities and performances throughout Cincinnati. His previous engagements include hosting masterclasses, working with students in the Cincinnati Symphony Youth Orchestra and Nouveau Program and performing at various locations across the city, including high schools, the University of Cincinnati and the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. Additional public performances for this season will be announced at a later date.

“The CSO is thrilled to appoint Randall Goosby to this new role. His passion for community building and dedication to making music more accessible to all aligns perfectly with our mission to seek and share inspiration as well as our vision of becoming the most relevant orchestra in America,” said CSO Chief Inclusion Officer Harold Brown. “We look forward to working with Goosby and fostering new relationships within Cincinnati through music.”
