LEARN MORE
BOSTON, MA (For Immediate Release) — “Continuing to shine in overlooked music from the last century (Gramophone),” the forward-thinking Boston Modern Orchestra Project, led by acclaimed conductor Gil Rose, today announced the launch of BMOP/sound Singles, a new bold initiative releasing stand-alone digital works on its Grammy Award-winning in-house label, BMOP/sound. Adding to its already impressive catalog of 100 orchestral recordings, BMOP/sound Singles elevates the listener experience with immersive tracks, many available in Dolby Atmos spatial audio and binaural renderings. The inaugural release David Felder: Die Dämmerungen will be followed by bimonthly ones to be announced soon.
Adding to its traditional album cycle, the BMOP/sound Singles series features a steady stream of fresh, one-off releases from both established and emerging composers. Each single will be released across all major streaming platforms, giving listeners a new platform that produces a deeper connection with their favorite composers, and to the label’s evolving sound. With this new venture, BMOP/sound provides a more accessible route for music to be shared worldwide.
“Physical albums will always have a special place in our work,” says Gil Rose, founder and producer of BMOP/sound. “But we wanted to create a space to share our robust catalog of recordings in a more spontaneous and intimate way. Composers are creating extraordinary works that deserve to be heard now—not years later as part of a larger release. This series allows us to give composers a more direct, flexible outlet to connect with listeners.”
The inaugural release Die Dämmerungen (Singles #2001) by David Felder (b. 1953) will be shared on November 14, 2025, performed by the Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP) using Dolby Atmos Music. The 25-minute work sets the tone for a series that champions originality, curiosity, and contemporary artistry. Die Dämmerungen was commissioned and composed for the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and JoAnn Falletta in 2017-2019. The work is in four movements, each a musical musing upon varieties twilights, referencing daybreak as well as sunset, the processes of aging as experienced individually, and within societies as cycles of time inexorably turn. For each movement, poetic inscriptions along with the movement titles, serve to frame the music.
About Gil Rose
Gil Rose is one of today’s most trailblazing conductors, praised as “amazingly versatile” (The Boston Globe) with “a sense of style and sophistication” (Opera News). Equally at home performing core repertoire, new music, and lesser-known historic symphonic and operatic works, “Gil Rose is not just a fine conductor, but a peerless curator, sniffing out—and commissioning—off-trend, unheralded, and otherwise underplayed repertoire who nevertheless holds to unfailingly high standards of quality. In doing so, he’s built an indefinable, but unmistakable, personal aesthetic” (WQXR). A global leader in American contemporary music, GRAMMY Award-winner Rose is the founder of the performing and recording ensemble, the Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP), who “bring an endlessly curious and almost archaeological mind to programming…with each concert, each recording, an essential step in a better direction” (The New York Times), as well as the founder of Odyssey Opera, praised by The New York Times as “bold and intriguing.”
