Parthenia Viols Presents When I Had a Voice – New Works for Viols and Voice
Parthenia, New York’s premiere viol consort, has announced the first event of their 2025-2026 New York concert season, which will be presented on Sunday, November 23 @ 4:00 pm at Agnes Varis Performing Arts Center, 53A Chambers Street, 2nd floor, located in the 280 Broadway building, near City Hall.
The program, When I Had a Voice will present new works for voice and viols by contemporary composers Phil Kline, Frances Blaker and Christopher DiVincenzo, and the World Premiere of No Wind No Rain by Richard Einhorn. Special guest will be Elizaveta Kozlova, soprano.
The performance will be followed by a reception. Viol players of all levels are invited to bring an instrument, a music stand and join in a consort reading session during the reception, music provided. Composers are also welcome – bring your new compositions for viols and a group will read through your sketches.

Parthenia is a quartet of viols which animates ancient and contemporary music. Parthenia is presented in concerts and festivals across America including Bargemusic, Music Before 1800, Maverick Concerts, The Rockport Chamber Music Festival, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Miller Theatre and the Yale Center for British Art, and in Europe at the Regensburg Tage Alter Musik. The ensemble produces its own concert series in NYC, collaborating regularly with the world's foremost early music specialists including Piffaro, Julianne Baird, Paul O'Dette, Blue Heron and ARTEK. Parthenia actively commissions and premieres works by today's composers including Eleonor Sandresky, Richard Einhorn, Phil Kline, Frances White, Max Lifchitz, Will Ayton, Nicholas Patterson and Kristin Norderval. Parthenia’s latest CD Nothing Proved, on the MSR Classics label, features music by Hildegard von Bingen, Frances White, Kristin Norderval, and Tawnie Olson. They are represented by Shirley Hunt, GEMS Live! Director of Booking and Artist Representation.

Described as “versatile” and “dramatically convincing” (Voce di Meche) and praised for her “impassioned phrasing” (OperaWire), soprano Elizaveta Kozlova has been presented nationally and internationally. She has performed the roles of Doralice (Il trionfo dell’onore) with Amherst Early Music Festival, Anna I (Die sieben Todsünden) and Servilia (La Clemenza di Tito) with Dell’Arte Opera, Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro) with New York Lyric Opera. She has appeared as a soloist in Bach’s St John Passion with Juilliard415 orchestra and in Bach’s Magnificat at the Moscow International House of Music. Elizaveta is an avid interpreter of new music, and has performed world premieres in France and the US. She collaborated with Carnegie Hall on a performance of Into Air by Alex Mills, and premiered two pieces for soprano and orchestra at the New Music New Haven concert series at the Yale School of Music. Elizaveta is a recipient of an Encouragement Award from The Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition. She was the finalist of the Concorso di Canto Barocco “Francesco Provenzale” in Napoli, Italy. Elizaveta received the Marin Alsop Entrepreneurship Award at the Mannes School of Music where she obtained her BM and MM Degrees.
