Tomer Zvulun, founder of the Film Studio and the company’s Carl W. Knobloch, Jr. General & Artistic Director, is committed to expanding the impact of opera and sees the opera films as a key initiative for the company.
He says:
“With this major release of feature films of opera, we demonstrate our commitment to innovation, to breaking boundaries, and to underscore the power of this vibrant art form. Opera’s stories and emotions are universal, whether experienced in the theater or on screen.”
Unlike staged opera, which is experienced live in the theater, opera films are created specifically for the screen, using cinematic techniques such as close-ups, dynamic camera work, and film editing to bring audiences closer to the music and drama. The result is a more personal, cinematic experience that combines the power of live performance with the storytelling tools of film.
Film Studio Director Felipe Barral explains:
"In these films, we take audiences onstage for a visual journey that makes these films an intimate experience and offers a completely different perspective from what live theater audiences can see. They give opera lovers a chance to see the performers as fine actors in addition to great singers."
