All-Star Orchestra Receives 11th Emmy® Award
The All-Star Orchestra performing the “Organ Symphony” by Camille Saint-Saëns
October 13, 2024 (New York) — The All-Star Orchestra, an ensemble comprising top musicians from the best orchestras across the country to perform under Music Director Gerard Schwarz, is honored to receive its 11th Emmy® Award. The New York Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has awarded the episode “A Symphonic Organ Spectacular” — from season 6, the Emmy® Award in the “Audio Live / Post Production” category. The father-and-son team of sound engineers Dmitriy and Alexander Lipay are the winners. The announcement was made at the 68th Annual Emmy® Awards, which took place on October 11 at the New York Marriott Marquis. The hourlong episode was also nominated in the “Entertainment (Long-Form Content)” category.
The board of directors extends its heartfelt congratulations to the musicians of the All-Star Orchestra and Maestro Schwarz, and especially to the gifted Lipays. Dmitriy was the recording engineer/editor for the episode; Alexander was the audio producer/mastering mix engineer.
“A Symphonic Organ Spectacular” episode 601, originally aired in July, 2024 on WNET, the New York PBS affiliate. National broadcasts of season six, including this program, commenced in October, 2024. It features French composer Camille Saint-Saëns’ iconic Symphony No. 3, the “Organ Symphony” that has thrilled audiences worldwide ever since its premiere in 1886. The program opens with Mexican composer Carlos Chávez’ Sinfonía india from 1931 featuring authentic melodies of indigenous peoples and native percussion instruments of Aztec heritage.
The All-Star Orchestra series has been broadcast nationwide on public television since 2013, and previously won Emmy® awards in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2024. The organization most recently produced the multifaceted programming for its sixth season, which is currently being aired. It consists of “A Symphonic Organ Spectacular,” with music by Saint-Saëns and Carlos Chávez; “Symphonic Metamorphosis,” with works by Paul Hindemith, Franz Liszt, and Anton Webern; “Concerto for Orchestra,” featuring the masterpiece by Béla Bartók, and Bach; and “Schubert’s Immortal Unfinished Symphony,” also featuring music by American composers David Diamond and Joan Tower.
