The League of American Orchestras today announced new members elected to its Board of Directors. Dr. Regynald G. Washington, a member of Chicago Sinfonietta’s Board of Directors since October 2017, is one of the seven new Board members that have joined the League of American Orchestras’ Board of Directors and will serve a three-year term.

"It is an honor to join the Board of Directors of the League of American Orchestras," states Dr. Washington. "The League, in its constant advocacy for orchestras, the orchestral experience and symphonic music in communities, is a vital organization in our field. I look forward to serving alongside my fellow colleagues as a member of the League’s Board of Directors for the next three years, and contributing to the awareness and support of the League's endeavors."

Sidney P. Jackson, Jr., President and CEO of Chicago Sinfonietta, congratulated Washington, saying, “We are excited to have Regynald join the League of American Orchestra’s Board of Directors. As a forward-thinking and positive member of our Board, his time on the League’s Board will no doubt result in robust and positive outcomes for the League and for the symphonic industry.”

Sinfonietta Board Chair Jim Weidner added, “Regynald Washington is both a thoughtful and dynamic leader, and we at Chicago Sinfonietta couldn’t be prouder that he will represent us on the Board of the League of American Orchestras. Regynald has been a big part of our success in the years since he joined us. He was instrumental in the Sinfonietta’s recent March 2024 “Homecoming Tour” to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in Atlanta, Georgia, which offered a sold-out, free-to-the-public orchestral concert of works featuring Black, woman, and living composers, as well as various educational events for the HBCU students– an extension of our mission and which demonstrated the type of work we do both on the stage and in the community in Chicago. Great things ahead for the League.”

Dr. Washington joins a dynamic group of leaders. Other newly elected members announced alongside Dr. Washington include (in alphabetical order): Rei Hotoda, Music Director, Fresno Philharmonic; Blake-Anthony Johnson, CEO, New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and Foundation; Barbara McCelvey, President, Foundation for Jones Hall and President-Elect and Chair of Development Committee, Houston Symphony Society; Pamela Mayo, CEO and founder of King’s Global Logistics and Member, Ravinia Festival Trustee and Ravinia Festival Women’s Board Member; Jessica Phillips, Clarinet and E-flat Clarinetist for Metropolitan Opera, Graduate Studies Faculty specializing in Entrepreneurship at The Juilliard School, Consultant, Arts & Culture, 11A Collaborative, and Board Member and Member of Artist Services Committee, The Field; Elizabeth Shribman, Chief Operating Officer and Former Chief of Staff, San Francisco Symphony, and Treasurer and Immediate Past President, Association of California Symphony Orchestras.
