April 16: American debut of Danish ensemble Rudersdal Chamber Players presented by Cutting Edge Concerts New Music Festival

Rudersdal Chamber Players perform Victoria Bond's "Other Selves," plus premiere performances of piano quartets by Poul Ruders, Andrew Waggoner, and Elena Firsova

The Rudersdal Chamber Players from Denmark make their United States debut at Symphony Space on Wednesday, April 16 at 7:30 pm. The concert is presented by Victoria Bond's Cutting Edge Concerts New Music Festival. Tickets are $30, available here.

Called "unforgettable" by Fanfare Magazine Rudersdal Chamber Players – violinist Christine Pryn, violist Marie Stockmarr Becker, cellist John Ehde and pianist Manuel Esperilla have performed throughout Denmark and in Sweden, Norway, Germany, and Poland. In 2022 they released the world premiere recording of Poul Ruders’ chamber music, earning 5 stars from BBC Music Magazine among other critical accolades. The Whole Note praised the ensemble for "[lifting] the music .. off the page and into the ether with finesse and passion.

A centerpiece of the program is the East Coast premiere of a piano quartet by Ruders, whose work has been commissioned from the Berlin, BBC, and New York Philharmonic orchestras. Also on the program: the world premiere of Matter, Circle, Heart by American composer Andrew Waggoner, the U.S. premiere of Elena Firsova's Four Seasons, and Victoria Bond's piano trio Other Selves, which was commissioned by the Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival. Bond’s trio began as a ballet choreographed by Lynne Taylor-Corbett and is based on sculptures by Marjorie Michaels depicting scenes from a woman’s life.

Inspired by Boulez's series, "Perspective Encounters", the composer and conductor Victoria Bond founded Cutting Edge Concerts in 1998. Along with performances by world-class ensembles and soloists, each program features on-stage discussions between host Victoria Bond and the composers.

The season continues on May 28 with pianist Min Kwon performing selections by Jessica Meyer, Victoria Bond, Paul Moravec, and others from her "America/Beautiful" project (tickets here). Full program details below.
