Competition Designed to Offer Opportunities to Emerging Creatives
June 17- 21, 2025 at Morehouse College in Atlanta
(Atlanta, GA... For Immediate Release: February 4, 2025) Applications are open for participation in The Atlanta Opera's 96-Hour Opera Project for composers and librettists. Creatives are invited to apply to develop their skills and compete for a $25,000 commission to write a one-act chamber opera. Applications will be accepted now through February 18, 2025.
Composers and librettists (either applying together or paired by the competition) who are selected to participate are expected to bring to the competition a completed 10-minute work created to a supplied scenario. The teams will have a 96-hour residency in Atlanta to rehearse and develop their entries with assigned performers, music directors/pianists, and guidance from specialists in the field from June 17 to 21, 2025.
Designed for composers and librettists from historically under-recognized communities, the competition is open to those who self-identify as part of a demographic that has been under-presented in opera.
