Mark Weinstein Appointed Interim Executive Director of Classical Tahoe
Scott Hosfeld Appointed General Manager and Festival Producer
Incline Village, NV - The Board of Directors of Classical Tahoe has named Mark Weinstein Interim Executive Director, succeeding Karen Craig who is stepping down after eight years with Classical Tahoe. In addition, Scott Hosfeld has been appointed General Manager. Classical Tahoe has hired two new leaders to support the continued growth of the organization. Weinstein and Hosfeld assumed their roles with the 12-year-old festival, effective immediately.
Karen Craig, Executive Director since 2016, has stepped down in order to spend more time with her family and pursue other interests. During Craig’s tenure, she led the organization in development of a new outdoor Pavilion, creation of the Livestream and PBS Reno Broadcast productions, establishment of the Classical Tahoe Academy and Brubeck Jazz Summit programs, and partnership with the University of Nevada, Reno at Lake Tahoe. Classical Tahoe and the Incline community are grateful to her for her leadership and years devoted to the Festival.
“It has been my joy to create a venue to bring the community together and a thrill to broadcast our exceptional orchestra worldwide. I am so proud of all that we have accomplished together,” said Karen Craig.
Mark Weinstein, former President and CEO of the Brevard Music Center (BMC), recently retired from BMC after serving the organization for ten years. Weinstein has devoted his professional career to music having previously served as Executive Director of the New York City Opera at Lincoln Center, General Director of the Pittsburgh Opera, Executive Director of the Washington National Opera at the Kennedy Center, and CEO of the AT&T Performing Arts Center in Dallas Texas. Mark has an MBA from the Harvard Business School and a BA in political science from Carleton College in Northfield Minnesota. His wife, Susanne Marsee, was the leading mezzo soprano soloist at New York City Opera at Lincoln Center for over 20 years.
“Classical Tahoe is a wonderful organization providing extraordinary music to the Reno Tahoe area and I look forward to being part of the team," said Mark Weinstein.
“We are simply thrilled to have Mark Weinstein join Classical Tahoe. Mark brings tremendous expertise and wonderful leadership experience, and will help guide us into the future,” said Marna Broida, incoming Chair of the Classical Tahoe Board of Directors.
A violist with the Classical Tahoe orchestra for 6 years, Scott Hosfeld brings his history with the organization and extensive experience as an arts administrator and entrepreneur to his new role as General Manager and Festival Producer. In addition to his career as an accomplished musician, conductor, and educator, Hosfeld has founded and sustained youth orchestras, chamber music organizations and arts institutions in five states, with particular emphasis on musical performance and education programs. Hosfeld was founding Executive and Artistic Director of the Icicle Creek Center for the Arts in Leavenworth, Washington, has served as Director of Orchestras and Ensembles for the Idyllwild Arts Foundation and Academy, and currently serves as music director for Malibu Coast Chamber Orchestra.
“I’m very excited to be joining the Classical Tahoe staff as General Manager and Festival Producer. As a violist with the orchestra for many years, the Festival is a very special part of my life and I'm overjoyed to be able to share my organizational and program building skills with this wonderful organization,” said Scott Hosfeld.
