Jacksonville Symphony Extends Contract with Musicians Through 2028
Jacksonville, Fla – The Jacksonville Symphony and its musicians have approved a four-year contract renewal for the 60 full-time musicians, effective through 2028.
This contract renewal reaffirms the Jacksonville Symphony's dedication to attracting and retaining top-tier musical talent while continuing to enrich the cultural fabric of Northeast Florida. With this decision, the organization aims to provide stability and support to its musicians, who have consistently demonstrated their virtuosity and passion for the symphonic arts.
"We are very proud to offer this contract extension to our musicians," said President and CEO Steven Libman. "Their unwavering commitment to artistic excellence has been instrumental in shaping our vibrant music community. It is a testament to our appreciation for their tireless efforts, especially during a time when many other orchestras are facing instability."
In addition to the immediate impact of financial stability for the musicians, this new contract also ushers in the opportunity for increased economic impact within the Jacksonville community. Based upon its $12.5 million budget, the Jacksonville Symphony’s annual economic impact is estimated at $15.2 million according to the Arts & Economic Prosperity Calculator by Americans for the Arts. An estimated 90% of the Symphony’s operating budget remains in Northeast Florida annually, contributing to the economic vitality of the area.
“Most of our musicians live in Duval County, pay taxes, own property, send their children to schools and spend their salaries locally,” explains Libman. “As the largest cultural organization in Northeast Florida, it’s important that we as an organization contribute to the overall vibrancy and economic vitality of the Jacksonville community.”
The Jacksonville Symphony remains dedicated to its mission of making classical music accessible to all members of the community. The organization will continue to offer a wide range of educational and community engagement programs designed to inspire a lifelong love of music among Jacksonville residents.
“With this support, the musicians of the Jacksonville Symphony can continue to strive for excellence and share the joy of symphonic music with our audiences,” said Todd Lockwood, Chairperson of the Orchestra Committee and Acting Principal Bass.
