A season consisting of four live debuts by pianists Harmony Zhou and Chaeyoung Park, bass-baritone Joseph Parrish, and mezzo-soprano Erin Wagner

YCA will hold the Final Round of Susan Wadsworth International Auditions on November 11, with the Winners Concert the following day, on November 12 

The Finale of YCA’s season will take place at Carnegie Hall’s Zankel Hall on May 20, featuring YCA Artists and Alums including violinists Paul Huang, Chee-Yun, Daniel Phillips, Bella Hristova, and Lun Li, cellists Colin Carr and Julia Bruskin, pianist Anthony De Mare, tenor Daniel McGrew, soprano Chelsea Guo, and more

 

New York, NY - For Immediate Release - Young Concert Artists (YCA) announces their 2023-2024 season, including the introduction of four of their newest artists through their New York debut series, as well as a co-presentation with the New York Festival of Song on February 21. The YCA Susan Wadsworth International Auditions Final Round on November 11 at Merkin Hall will be followed the next day by the YCA Winners Concert on November 12 at The Morgan Library & Museum, both of which will be streamed live on YCA's Youtube and Facebook pages. Throughout the season, YCA will present four noon-time performances that demonstrate the growth of YCA artists within one year of YCA's support and resources, also held at The Morgan Library & Museum. To finish off, the Season Finale at Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall on May 20 will feature YCA Artists and Alums including violinists Paul Huang, Chee-Yun, Daniel Phillips, Bella Hristova, and Lun Li, cellists Colin Carr and Julia Bruskin, pianist Anthony De Mare, tenor Daniel McGrew, soprano Chelsea Guo, and more.

In addition to the performances in NYC, four YCA artists — pianist Harmony Zhou (November 1), bass-baritone Joseph Parrish (February 6), mezzo-soprano Eric Wagner (March 13), and pianist Chaeyoung Park (April 28) — will be presenting their own programs in Washington, DC, each of them revealing unique aspects of their artistry at the Kennedy Center's Terrace Theater. Artist Statement: “For years I’ve been wanting to revive and revamp a 2006 program called All Together Now, an evening of ensemble pieces covering five centuries of Western music. I just needed a cast of crackerjack musicians with inquisitive minds and a command of style—and voilà, there they were on the YCA roster! This quintet of my favorite young colleagues, fresh from conquering the world as soloists, was eager to do a project where they could sing with their colleagues. Musically they can do anything—and in this show, they will reveal the full extent of their artistry.”

Artist Statement: "Despite society’s attempts to move forward from a past marked by violence and hatred, division and injustice continue to thwart us. We see this reflected in political decisions that harm the people most in need of protection and aid, in the violation of human rights that occurs daily across the world, and in a general sense of hopelessness about what lies ahead for all of us. The fundamental need for reformation could not be clearer or more pressing. Everything must change."

Program: An evening of German lieder, Russian romances, American songs, a world premiere by YCA Composer-in-Residence Alistair Coleman, and spirituals featuring the WPA Children of the Gospel Choir.

Artist Statement: “This program is designed to create a communal space. I have programmed multiple genres of music; from German Romantic, to American Song Book, to Gospel. There is something here for everybody, through the vessel of music.”

About Young Concert Artists

Each year, through a rigorous audition process, Young Concert Artists chooses a new group of exceptional young musicians to add to its roster with the promise of debuts in both New York City and Washington, D.C. followed by at least three years of career management. This includes providing performance opportunities, promotional and marketing services, travel arrangements, educational residency experience, and extensive professional development. 

Founded in 1961 by Susan Wadsworth, Young Concert Artists has presented nearly 300 artist debut concerts, has commissioned more than 30 compositions from YCA composers, and has facilitated thousands of residencies through the Annaliese Soros Educational Residency Program.
 

About YCA President Daniel Kellogg

Daniel Kellogg steps into the leadership role of Young Concert Artists with the unique perspective of an alumnus of Young Concert Artists, one of the extraordinary musicians whose careers were discovered and launched to prominence by this innovative non-profit organization. Chosen as YCA Composer-in-Residence in 2002, Daniel Kellogg was a member of the Young Concert Artists roster for ten years. His compositions have been premiered by the Philadelphia Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra, Kansas City Symphony, San Diego Symphony, Colorado Symphony Orchestra, and Orchestre de Chambre de Paris, at the Aspen Music Festival, and by the Takacs Quartet and eighth blackbird. He holds degrees in music composition from the Curtis Institute of Music and the Yale School of Music, and served as the Head of Composition at the University of Colorado, College of Music from 2005 to 2019. He has also served as Composer-in-Residence for the South Dakota Symphony, Green Bay Symphony, and Lexington Philharmonic.
