Percussia New Music Ensemble Presents Two Community-Based Events: April 23 in Jackson Heights and May 2 in Long Island City, Queens

April 17, 2023

New York, NY – As part of ongoing mission to being music to the New York City community, Percussia new music ensemble will present two community events, Sunday, April 23 @ 2:00 PM at JH Laundromat, 85-15 37th Ave. in Jackson Heights and Thursday, May 2 @ 2:00 PM, street level at the 33rd St. #7 Train Plaza in Long Island City, Queens.

The April 23 event, Wash, Rinse and Repeat, will include music for Celtic harp and micro percussion performed in the ultimate community setting. Percussia will present the World Premiere of Carlo Nicolau’s composition Windows of Time. Performers will be Ingrid Gordon, percussion and Susan Jolles, harp.

Commissioned in 2022 by Percussia, Windows of Time is a composition for Celtic harp, Orff xylpohone, and mini percussion. It consists of 3 movements, "Memories", "Posterity" and "Life', which are the composer’s musical-metaphor portrayal of these three basic moments in time, and their relationship to life. More about the composer at https://www.stemhivenyc.org/blog/meet-maestro-carlo-nicolau.

The May 2 program, Shopping Cart Percussion, will feature 3 percussionists arriving with a shopping cart full of percussion and creating rhythms for the community. It will take place at the 33rd St. #7 Train Plaza in Long Island City near LaGuardia Community College and the Long Island City YMCA. Performers will be Ingrid Gordon, Frank Cassara, Bill Ruyle, percussion.

The April 23 and May 2 events are free.

All Percussia presentations are ADA accessible. For MTA transportation information, visit http://tripplanner.mta.info/MyTrip/ui_web/customplanner/TripPlanner.aspx.
