New York, NY (January 16, 2022) — Acclaimed early music ensemble TENET Vocal Artists, led by Artistic Director Jolle Greenleaf, presents TENEbrae: Lassus’ Lagrime di San Pietro, sacred motets that are among Orlando de Lassus’ finest compositions, on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at 7:00pm. Held at St. Paul’s Chapel at Trinity Wall Street (209 Broadway between Fulton and Vesey Streets), TENET’s singers will be joined by brass ensemble Dark Horse Consort in a special performance featuring the Flemish composer’s entire collection of motets from the late Renaissance.

Vocalists include soprano and Artistic Director Jolle Greenleaf, mezzo-sopranos Laura Pudwell and Elisa Sutherland, tenor Jason McStoots, baritone Thomas McCargar, bass-baritone Edmund Milly, and bass Steven Hrycelak. Jeffrey Grossman joins on harpsichord/organ and Charles Weaver on theorbo. Dark Horse Consort includes Greg Ingles, Mack Ramsey, and Erik Schmalz on sackbut, Alexandra Opsahl and Kiri Tollaksen on cornetto, Stephanie Corwin on bassoon, and Priscilla Herreid on winds. The concert will be filmed and available to view as a virtual concert from March 7, 2023 to June 7, 2023.

“Considered to be one of the greatest compositional achievements to Renaissance music, Lassus’ inspiring 7-part, through composed collection of 21 motets is a tour de force that comes to us at the end of the Renaissance just before the birth of opera, which dramatically changes the landscape of compositional style,” Artistic Director Jolle Greenleaf shares. “I’ve been dreaming of putting this program together for years and I’m so happy to collaborate with Dark Horse Consort on this project. We’re creating a magical roadmap of musical ideas to highlight the music and we’re excited to share it with our audience!”

TENET’s 2022-23 season further includes Bach’s Magnificat and Easter Oratorio on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at 7:30pm at the Church of St. Vincent Ferrer, and Rejoice, Rejoice! on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at 7:00pm at St. Ignatius of Antioch.

About Dark Horse Consort
The early music ensemble Dark Horse Consort is dedicated to unearthing the majestic late Renaissance and early Baroque repertoire for brass instruments. Inspired by the bronze horse statues in Venice’s famed St. Mark’s Basilica, the ensemble brings to new life the glorious sounds of composers such as Giovanni Gabrieli, Claudio Monteverdi, and Heinrich Schütz. Dark Horse often expands to include vocalists and strings to recreate the rapturous kaleidoscope that was the sound of the early 17th-century ensemble.
