“iSing Silicon Valley girlchoir has made a monumental contribution to the art of the treble choir.” — Choral Journal
Palo Alto, CA (January 10, 2023) — iSing Silicon Valley continues its 10th anniversary season this winter, partnering with soprano Joyce DiDonato for workshops and a concert presented by Stanford Live as part of the Eden project on Friday, January 20, 2023 at 7:30 p.m. at Bing Concert Hall. iSing also participates in a master class with Dr. Anton Armstrong and the St. Olaf Choir during the choir’s 2023 West Coast Winter Tour, opening for the St. Olaf Choir on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. at Grace’s Cathedral. Looking ahead toward the release of their second full-length album, love & light, iSing hosts an album pre-release party on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. at the Triton Museum of Art. iSing then travels to Cincinnati, OH as one of 28 auditioned choirs chosen to perform at the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) conference on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, 9:30 a.m. & 4:30 p.m. at the Aronoff Center for the Arts.
As part of the Eden project, iSing has been invited to participate in a workshop with teaching artist Manolo Davila to engage deeper around local environmental issues through the arts, culminating in a performance of the Eden anthem, Seeds of Hope, on stage alongside Joyce DiDonato. The performance at Bing Concert Hall on January 20 will feature 87 elementary age members of iSing Harmonics Chorus and iSing@RWC, iSing’s Neighborhood Chorus for girls who attend Title 1 schools in Redwood City.
In February, iSing’s elite chorus, HD, participates in a master class with the St. Olaf Choir conductor Dr. Anton Armstrong, receiving one-on-one coaching and learning about collegiate choirs at the highest level. HD will then open for the St. Olaf Choir concert at Grace Cathedral on February 4, performing works from iSing’s upcoming album love & light including Monstra te esse Matrem by Kile Smith and Ave Regina Caelorum, by Andrew Smith.
In celebration of iSing’s second full-length album, love & light, to be released on AVIE Records in April 2023, iSing will host an album pre-release party at the Triton Museum of Art on February 11. Featuring a performance by HD of several tracks from the album, the event showcases the album’s collection of sacred works ranging from the 12th to the 21st centuries with themes of exploring hope, compassion, and the search for wisdom. Attendees will enjoy food and drink, and see a first showing of a making-of the album video. Featured guests include love & light harpist Cheryl Fulton and composer Kenyon Duncan.
Later that month, iSing travels to Cincinnati, OH to perform selections from love & light at the national ACDA conference, including the world premiere of Where the Insects Cry, by Latvian composer Santa Ratniece, and a performance of chorea lucis by composer Kenyon Duncan, both iSing commissioned works. The program reflects iSing’s dedication to forming partnerships with composers, adding to the repertoire of great works for treble voices, creating opportunities for the singers under iSing’s care to bring new music to life, and meeting the ever greater artistic challenges iSing’s most advanced singers enjoy most.
“We are thrilled to offer so many inspiring musical opportunities to our singers this spring,” said iSing Artistic Director Jennah Delp Somers. “From our ongoing commissioning initiative - which to date has produced nearly 30 new pieces for treble voices - to releasing our second album, to participating in workshops and master classes while performing alongside some of the most accomplished musicians today, our tenth anniversary season has given our singers room to learn and grow while facing musical challenges with great enjoyment and poise.”
