Songs and Vocal Works by American Composers Presented on December 10 at Manhattan’s Greenwich House Music School
Songs and vocal works by American composers will be performed on Saturday, December 10 @ 7:00 PM at Renee Weiler Concert Hall at Greenwich House Music School, 46 Barrow Street in Manhattan. The event is presented by Lower East Side Performing Arts.
Works to be performed are Elodie Lauten’s The Five-Petal Proportion (from Two Cents Opera) for flute, voice and electronic recording, the Premiere of Beth Anderson’s Various for solo flute, Mantra by Jim Theobald for flute, voice and piano, John Cage’s A Flower for voice and piano and Variations on "America" for flute and piano, arr. Daniel Dorff from the composition by Charles Ives.
The program will also include songs by Charles Ives for voice and piano, Ann Street (words by Maurice Morris, courtesy of "the New York Herald"), The Cage, The Side Show, The Things Our Fathers Loved (and the greatest of these was Liberty), The Childrens' Hour (words by Longfellow) and He is There! For voice, piano & piccolo.
Performers will be Andrew Bolotowsky, flute, Elizabeth Rodgers, piano and Mary Hurlbut, voice.
Andrew Bolotowsky is a well-known and frequently recorded flautist from New York City. He studied with William Kincaid, Elaine Schaffer and Jean-Pierre Rampal. He has performed over three thousand concerts throughout the United States and with many orchestras and chamber ensembles throughout the region. Collaborative pianist Elizabeth Rodgers holds degrees from Manhattan School of Music. She is in demand as a recitalist with singers and instrumentalists, in chamber, orchestral, choral, and operatic repertoire. She performs regularly with Downtown Music, Music Under Construction, American Chamber Opera, New York Gilbert and Sullivan Players, American Landmark Festivals, and Libero Canto. She has premiered music by many contemporary composers and has recorded with Opus 1, Grenadilla, CRI, Musical Heritage, New World, and Albany.
Mary Hurlbut has performed and collaborated with the following composers and ensembles: Elodie Lauten, Judith Sainte Croix (with Sonora Trio), Lenore Von Stein (The Facts), Downtown Music Productions, Arts Loisaida, Downtown Ensemble, American Festival of Microtonal Music, Cygnus Ensemble and The New Music Consort.
