Piano Concerto for JFK, RBG & MLK by Biegel to Premiere
During the silence of pandemic lockdowns, pianist/composer Jeffrey Biegel created the first solo piano music - which can also be performed with orchestra - reflecting three pivotal American figures. The resulting composition is, Three Reflections: Freedom - An Ode to John Fitzgerald Kennedy (JFK), Justice - An Ode to Ruth Bader Ginsburg (RBG), and Equality - An Ode to Martin Luther King (MLK), orchestrated by Harrison Sheckler, a former pupil of Mr. Biegel at the Conservatory of Music at Brooklyn College. (The audio demos for Freedom and Equality are created by Zhi Chen, a current pupil of Mr. Biegel at Brooklyn College. The Dallas Symphony Orchestra performed the premiere of the second movement, Reflection of Justice: An Ode to Ruth Bader Ginsburg last October, with Lidiya Yankovskaya conducting. In each composition, the composer employs a musical alphabet from A - to - Z, creating themes for each name and their three legendary initials. (At the end of the Justice movement, we hear Justice Ginsburg's nickname, Kiki, a theme based on the name she was called as a child.)
The World Premiere of the complete concerto will be performed by Mr. Biegel with Aaron Collins leading the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra on November 26 and 27, along with Dick Tunney's arrangement of Vince Guaraldi's music forming the first Peanuts Concerto for Piano and Orchestra, and, the World Premiere of Christopher Marshall's Thanksgiving Variations for Piano and Orchestra.
