Composer and Film/TV Orchestrator Jonathan Beard Nominated for Emmy Award
Composer Jonathan Beard has been nominated for a 2022 Emmy Award by the San Francisco/Northern California chapter of National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS), alongside fellow creatives in editing, cinematography, and producer/director Ron Rogers, for the documentary film 3 Seconds in October: The Shooting of Andy Lopez, produced by Blue Coast Films.
It’s currently being shown on Public Broadcasting outlets throughout the United States. More about it at https://www.3secondsfilm.com/about.
Beard writes, “(This) is a crucial piece of documentary filmmaking, telling a both heartbreaking and hopeful story about police violence from my home town of Santa Rosa and Sonoma County, which reverberates far beyond in our ongoing discussion of police procedures and conduct nationwide. I am immensely honored to be associated with this film, and grateful to the SF/NorCal chapter of NATAS for the recognition and amplification. Everyone should see this film.”
Jonathan Beard, UCLA Lecturer in Electronic Music Composition, creates music for media and the concert stage. As a composer, recent diverse projects include the electroacoustic opera Cesare, Child of Night (Opera UCLA premiere 2021); Ritual, a five-piece electroacoustic suite for chamber ensemble and electronics, on 4Tay Records; the film scores to What Still Remains, Heavenquest, and Frank vs. God; and De tu puño y letra, an electronic video-sound collaboration with iconic artist Suzanne Lacy. He has served on the composing teams for video games such as Star Wars Battlefront I and II, and guest-composed for ABC's Once Upon A Time. For the stage, Jonathan co-composed the oratorio The Passion of Anne Frank for the Los Angeles Master Chorale as part of their Voices Within residency, and his original theatre-score for Driving Miss Daisy received an NAACP Theatre Award nomination. Jonathan has also orchestrated hundreds of film, episodic television, and video game scores for other composers and collaborators. Visit him at https://www.jonathanbeard.com/.
