Ukrainian-American Pianist Inna Faliks in Southern California: Recitals at Wende Museum, Boston Court Pasadena, and the long-awaited Reimagine: Beethoven and Ravel program at The Wallis

World Premiere
In the Footsteps of The Master and Margarita
May 6, 2022 at 8 pm | Wende Museum (Culver City, CA)

In recital, the pianist Inna Faliks explores the satirical and supernatural novel, The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov. Faliks gives the world premiere of two compositions written especially for this occasion: Maya Miro Johnson's Manuscripts Don't Burn, for speaking pianist and Margarita Suite for piano by Veronika Krausas. In a nod to the novel’s Faustian theme, Ms. Faliks' program also includes Liszt's Mephisto Waltz and Beethoven Sonata opus 111, discussed in Thomas Mann's novel Dr. Faustus.

The program is part of Inna Faliks' ongoing series, "Music/Words," interdisciplinary performances that explore meaningful connections between music, poetry, and literature.

World Premiere
A Journey Toward Light
May 21, 2022 at 8 pm | Boston Court Pasadena (Pasadena, CA)

Inna Faliks performs the world premiere of Julia Adolph's Three Magnetic Etudes alongside Clara Schumann's passionate and rarely heard G minor Piano Sonata, Beethoven's transcendent last piano sonata Opus 111, and Manuscripts Don't Burn, a piece written for Ms. Faliks by Maya Miro Johnson. The program explores music that searches for meaning through what might have been, and what is yet to be, looking ahead toward an innovative and daring future.

Reimagine: Beethoven and Ravel
June 22, 2022 at 7:30 pm* | The Wallis (Beverly Hills, CA)

A long-awaited recital, the pianist Inna Faliks performs the complete program from her internationally acclaimed album Reimagine: Beethoven and Ravel for the first time. The program features the live premieres of nine imaginative and rich new works for the piano commissioned by Ms. Faliks, alongside masterpieces by Beethoven and Ravel.
Nine contemporary composers, including Paola Prestini, Billy Childs, Timo Andres, and six on UCLA's faculty - Richard Danielpour, Peter Golub, Ian Krouse, David Lefkowitz, Mark Carlson and Tamir Hendelman - were commissioned to craft responses to Ludwig van Beethoven’s Bagatelles, op. 126 and Maurice Ravel’s Gaspard de la Nuit.

*Rescheduled from January 2020
