Naples, FL (April 29, 2022)—Artis—Naples announced today that it will welcome renowned violinist and educator Midori for a special educational residency project from May 4-8. Midori’s Orchestra Residencies Program (ORP) is a collaborative musical and educational project in which Midori works with youth orchestras to provide meaningful experiences for the next generation of musicians and music lovers. Each residency is multifaceted and specific to the expressed needs and vision of each selected organization.

Midori’s residency with Artis-Naples includes intensive work with the Naples Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and the Naples Philharmonic Youth Symphonia. She will rehearse with these ensembles, coach chamber music, present workshops and lead master classes over four days. In addition, Midori will give presentations at Manatee Middle School, Golden Gate High School and, accompanied by a string quartet of Naples Philharmonic Youth Orchestra musicians, Gulf Coast High School. The residency concludes with a performance by Midori with the Naples Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and Naples Philharmonic Youth Symphonia led by Radu Paponiu and Gregg Anderson in Hayes Hall on May 8. The program includes Spring Cadenzas, a commissioned work by American composer Derek Bermel written specifically for Midori’s Orchestra Residencies Program, and the third movement of Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E Minor.

“Midori is so much more than one of the world’s leading concert violinists,” said CEO and President Kathleen van Bergen. “She is a visionary, a collaborator, an activist and an educator—one with a passion for connecting humans with music—which personifies our multidisciplinary approach to presenting the arts to the community. We are thrilled to welcome her to Artis—Naples and to provide this one-of-a-kind opportunity to young musicians.”

The master classes and final performance are free and open to the community; tickets are required and can be reserved at artisnaples.org.
