Chicago Sinfonietta announces new ratified

four-year musician contract

Multi-year contract reflects significant collaboration between Chicago Sinfonietta Musicians
Committee, the Chicago Federation of Musicians Local 10-208, and orchestra's new leadership

CHICAGO, IL – Chicago Sinfonietta has more to celebrate than just an exciting upcoming 35th anniversary season (soon to be announced). It enjoys a forward moving relationship between the orchestra's musicians and new leadership. Completed a full half-year before the current contract expires, the Sinfonietta today announced that a new four-year contract running from Fiscal Year 2023 through 2026 has been ratified by the musicians and Board. A successful collaboration between the Sinfonietta Musicians Committee, the Chicago Federation of Musicians Local 10-208, and Chicago Sinfonietta's new President and CEO, Blake-Anthony Johnson, the early agreement reflects the meaningful and significant planned growth of the organization as it heads into its 35th season.

“Our Chicago Sinfonietta musicians are the heart and core of one of America's most significant cultural institutions," stated Mr. Johnson. "The work accomplished in this contract is just the beginning as we embark on a deeply detailed and extensive long-range plan for the institution over the coming years. The aggressive investment in our musicians preserves our place in the Chicago and national markets, and our ability to remain the home of the most diverse and forward-thinking orchestral institution in the nation.

"With this contract, current and new members of the orchestra will have meaningful support to further the institution's commitment to the great City of Chicago and beyond."

The newly ratified agreement provides for a 20% increase in musician's wages over the term of the four-year contract. The contract also introduces new and improved work conditions for musicians as the organization continues to build, expand, and diversify programming, allows for creative flexibility for all parties in the future, and provides for the continuation of support that is essential for evolution in the field.
