Umberto Smerilli’s The Bunker Game Original Score to be Released

Umberto Smerilli’s score to the upcoming horror film, The Bunker Game is getting a digital release by Cinevox Record on March 17, 2022. The album includes a remix by Bewider two new versions of the Italian classic, Parlami d'amore Mariù. The film, directed by Roberto Zazzara, is premiering on Shudder March 17, 2022. The film stars Gaia Weiss, Lorenzo Richelmy, Tudor Istodor, Amina Smail, Makita Samba and Mark Ryder. The score will be available on all major digital sites including iTunes, Spotify, Amazon and Apple Music.

When discussing his work on the film Smerilli says, "Scoring The Bunker Game was something special. I had the opportunity to dive into unknown territories. I blended thrilling sounds of metal sheets, roaring self-built instruments, deep techno beats, crazy synths and a fantastic string orchestra to have an operatic breath. We wanted to be bold and rough and lyrical at the same time. Punch straight and make dream.”

The Bunker Game synopsis is as follows: Laura is an actress in a LARP (Live Action Role Playing) game where participants play the survivors of an atomic war who live underground in a sealed bunker. After several mysterious accidents, the game is interrupted and the players leave the bunker while the staff remain behind to investigate the disappearance of Greg, the game’s mastermind. They soon find themselves trapped inside and in peril as they begin to die in mysterious ways. The group realizes that someone or something paranormal is playing a twisted game with them which quickly plunges into a terrifying fight for survival.?

ABOUT UMBERTO SMERILLI

Umberto Smerilli is a film composer and sound designer based in Rome.

Umberto studied music composition in the thriving underground experimental scene of Bologna in the early 2000’s, an environment full of cultural stimuli and crossroad for art and politics. While studying music, he also took film courses in DAMS at the University of Bologna. His film studies prompted him to move to the Italian capital of cinema, Rome, to Cinecittà, the largest film studio in Europe, to chase the dream of being part of a long tradition made of myths like Fellini, Antonioni, Morricone, Rustichelli. After achieving the International Master in Film Music at the Italian National School of Cinema under Academy Award winner Luis Bacalov, he began working on projects that screened at prestigious international competitions all over the world, including the Venice and Tribeca Film Festivals.

2017 was a monumental year for Umberto. He was invited to join the Artist Academy by Film Society of Lincoln Center NY and also was ranked #6 as the Best Italian Film Composer by the Italian Film Academy. The next year he began teaching soundtrack production at the Italian National School of Cinema.

Some of Umberto’s film credits include Worldly Girl, Scramble, Post, Framed, The Tournament and The Gift. He has also produced music for Turner Broadcasting System Europe and scored commercials for major brands such as Barilla, D-Link and Spumante Ferrari.
