The Concours Musical International de Montréal wins the Opus Award for Music Event of the Year
THE CONCOURS MUSICAL INTERNATIONAL DE MONTRÉAL
WINS THE OPUS AWARD
FOR MUSIC EVENT OF THE YEAR!
Montreal, March 6, 2022 – This Sunday, March 6, the 25th Prix Opus Gala of the Conseil québécois de la musique (CQM) was held and the Concours musical international de Montréal (CMIM) was awarded the Prize for Music Event of the Year for its exceptional Piano 2021 edition.
CONSIDERABLE INTERNATIONAL LOGISTICS
The CMIM team innovated with this entirely digital edition, wishing to offer a virtual stage to the young competing pianists who had been isolated and silenced for more than a year due to the pandemic. A total of 26 pianists of 11 different nationalities were able to participate through video performances from 16 cities around the world, allowing music to cross borders, most often closed. The Piano 2021 recitals were broadcast on multiple platforms in Asia, Europe and America, accumulating more than 3 million views in just a few weeks. The Concours musical international de Montréal was never been so international!
This vast international production was dominated by the concern for quality and fairness that has characterized the CMIM since its very first edition in 2002. “Achieving this feat required considerable international logistics and I congratulate the CMIM team for having ventured down this path with the support of more than 200 international and local collaborators, all of whom, technicians, sound engineers, videographers and graphic designers, contributed to the success of Piano 2021,” commented CMIM President Jean-Jacques Laurans.
UNWAVERING SUPPORT
The CMIM owes the success of this feat to the solidarity of the entire community that surrounds it. “Since the beginning of the pandemic, we have felt the strong support of our administrators, our sponsors, our donors, our volunteers, and our artistic partners. This recognition from the CQM is a welcome addition to the extraordinary endorsement we feel to pursue our mission,” said Christiane LeBlanc, Executive and Artistic Director of the CMIM.
Spring 2022 will mark the return of the CMIM on stage with a Voice Edition that will unfold from May 31 to June 9 at Salle Bourgie and Maison symphonique. Until then, Piano 2021 recitals are still available for on-demand viewing on the CMIM Website.
