New York, NY - London-based Only Stage announced today the signing of Danish conductor Maria Badstue to their roster of artists for worldwide general management.
Ms. Badstue, a sought-after collaborator highly regarded for her accessibility and innate communication skills both on and off the podium, has an established career in the Nordic countries. Her career in Europe and the United Kingdom continues to expand.

Known for her innovative interpretations, passionate stage presence and versatility, Ms. Badstue has been praised as “one of the best young Danish conductors of today,” (Berlingske Media). A popular guest conductor, amongst the distinguished orchestras with which she has guested are the Danish National Chamber Orchestra, the symphony orchestras of Odense and Aalborg, the South Denmark Philharmonic, Sweden’s Gothenburg, Helsingborg, and Malmö symphonies, Orkester Norden, Kristiansand Symphony, and the Romanian Radio Orchestra. Co-founder of Copenhagen’s newest festival, The Ørestad Klassiske MusikFestival, launching this November 2021, she is also Artistic Director and Founder of the Nordic Masterclass for Conductors annual masterclass series. She is also recipient of a prestigious 2019-2021 Taki Alsop Conducting Fellowship (TACF), and is mentored by TACF Founder / international conductor Marin Alsop.
Highlights of Maria Badstue's 2021-22 season include performances with South Denmark Philharmonic, and her German opera conducting debut leading performances of Viktor Ullmann’s Der Kaiser Von Atlantis at Theater und Orchester Neubrandenburg / Neustrelitz. She also hosts a presentation and Q & A at CINEMATEKET of the documentary The Long Way to the Podium featuring soprano Barbara Hannigan and her mentor, Marin Alsop. In March 2022, 20 years after her professional conducting debut with the Randers Chamber Players, she returns to the ensemble to mark the milestone and to celebrate her birthday in concerts featuring the premiere of Line Tjørnhøj’s ANGEST and actor Thure Lindhart in Sibelius’s Pelleas et Melisande.
Recent engagements include recordings with the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Danish Orchestra/Det Kongelige Kapel for the Royal Danish Orchestra’s new “mobile experience universe,” and concerts with the Copenhagen Philharmonic i Tivoli Gardens.
A strong supporter of modern opera, Ms. Badstue made her 2012 opera debut premiering Lars Klit’s Angelo – La Opera in Copenhagen. Maria has also enjoyed a growing career in the operatic world since 2012. Highlights include her acclaimed 2018 Swedish opera debut with a 14-performance run of Massenet’s Don Quixote and a gala performance with FolkOperan in Stockholm, the 2015 Copenhagen premiere production of John Frandsen’s A Doll’s House with the Athelas Sinfonietta,and most recently, this past summer, performances of Mozart’s Cosi fan Tutte at Copenhagen’s Koncertkirken with musicians from the Royal Danish Opera and Nontardar, and three mini operas based on fairy tales by HC Andersen at the Copenhagen Opera Festival at Den Røde Plads / BLOX Copenhagen.
In addition to her career on the podium, Maria is highly regarded for her Nordic Masterclass for Conductors annual masterclass series. Considered one of the most important conducting masterclasses in Europe today, Nordic Masterclass for Conductors is a respected collaboration with Professor Jorma Panula and the South Denmark Philharmonic.
