James shared, “As a lifelong believer in the unifying power of the arts, I am honored and excited to be joining Washington Performing Arts, one of America’s most respected and beloved arts institutions. At a time when our nation is emerging from a pandemic, I look forward to working with the talented team of this intrepid organization to bring people back together, celebrate the arts in all their wondrous diversity, and engage in a new and vibrant human conversation once again.”

The city is truly our stage: for decades, in venues ranging from concert halls and clubs to public parks, we have presented a tremendous range of artists and art forms, from the most distinguished symphony orchestras to both renowned and emerging artists in classical music, gospel music, jazz, and other rich traditions from around the world. We also have an ever-expanding artistic and educational presence on the internet, envisioning ongoing opportunities for online connection and community.
