One World. One Sound. Revelry! Chicago Sinfonietta 2021 Ball

CHICAGO, IL - Chicago Sinfonietta announced the date of its annual ball today. Titled "One World. One Sound. Revelry!," the concept strongly ties in to the 34th season theme. In a world composed of myriad languages, cultures, races and religions, nowhere does this rich tapestry show itself better than in Chicago. It is through the magic of a single sound that the world is truly united as one.
 
States Juan B. Teague, Ball Civic Chair, "I truly believe that music encapsulates the vibrancy of life - it's a universal language that knows no barriers."
 
Taking place at the Fairmont Chicago, Downtown Chicago on Saturday evening, October 9, 2021, the annual black-tie gala this year honors Dr. Helene Gayle and Chicago Community Trust.

The popular event includes a cocktail reception, full orchestral performance with surprise guests, exciting live auction, and Bid-For-A-Cause. The annual ball is a large large source of funding for the organization's nationally acclaimed community and engagement programs and service initiatives that benefit thousands of individuals throughout the Chicagoland area each season.

About Juan B. Teague, Civic Chair, Chicago Sinfonietta 2021 Ball
Civic Chair of Chicago Sinfonietta’s 2021-22 season ball, Juan B Teauge’s strengths as a respected entrepreneur, activist, and civic leader, along with her focus on investment in BIPOC communities and her passionate commitment to equity and inclusion in the Chicagoland area and beyond are a match for the popular annual event, which brings together a diverse mix of Chicago corporations and individuals committed to supporting the nation’s most diverse orchestra and its innovative approach to symphonic music.
 
Ms. Teague is the founder of two successful Chicago-based businesses: Washington West, through which she partners and consults with small BIPOC businesses, connecting them with financial investors and other capital resources, and Juan & Only, LLC, a production and events company with which she has produced and co-produced large-scale festivals with audiences of 1,000 to 30,000 in the Chicago area, including Aahh! Fest by Common, Spring Awakening, and Mamby on the Beach.
 
For over 20 years, Ms. Teague worked in the Hotel and Hospitality industry. She served as Director of Sales at the Hard Rock Hotel, where she developed a team that increased sales from $1.5 million to $20 million in two years. Amongst her corporate clients / projects are the Special Olympics 50 th Anniversary Concert, Kanye West, Donovan McNabb, Def Jam, Dwyane Wade, Columbia Records, Atlantic Records, Jack Daniels, Heineken, and Stellar Awards Finale, and BMI Events.
 
A member of NIVA (National Independent Venue Association) and NACE (National Association for Catering and Events), during the COVID-19 pandemic, Ms. Teague established a statewide task force to develop mitigations for reopening events in Chicago and throughout Illinois. She also worked to secure grants of $5,000 to $10 million for event/entertainment-related businesses.
 
About Our 2021 Honorees, Dr. Helene Gayle and Chicago Community Trust
Helene D. Gayle, MD, MPH, has been president and CEO of The Chicago Community Trust, one of the nation’s oldest and largest community foundations, since October 2017. Under her leadership, the Trust has adopted a new strategic focus on closing the racial and ethnic wealth gap in the Chicago region. 
 
For almost a decade, Dr. Gayle was president and CEO of CARE, a leading international humanitarian organization. An expert on global development, humanitarian, and health issues, she spent 20 years with the Centers for Disease Control, working primarily on HIV/AIDS. She worked at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, directing programs on HIV/AIDS and other global health issues. 
 
Dr. Gayle serves on numerous public company and nonprofit boards, and has been awarded the Chicago Mayor’s Medal of Honor for her work on COVID relief and recovery for the city. Named one of  Forbes’  “100 Most Powerful Women” and one of NonProfit Times 's “Power and Influence Top 50,” she has authored numerous articles on global and domestic public health issues, poverty alleviation, gender equality, and social justice.
 
Dr. Gayle was born and raised in Buffalo, NY. She earned a BA in psychology at Barnard College, an MD at the University of Pennsylvania and an MPH at Johns Hopkins University. She has received 18 honorary degrees and holds faculty appointments at the University of Washington and Emory University.
