New York, July 28, 2021
"Frederic Chopin's Posthumous Works and How They Were Saved," is the subject of Marjan Kiepura's second podcast in the series Marjan's Musical Soirées.
Works by Chopin, all published after his death in 1849, performed and examined by Marjan Kiepura include the Waltz in F Minor, Op. 70, No. 2; Mazurka in C Major, Op. 68, No.1; Mazurka in F Major, Op. 68, No. 3 and the recently identified last composition, the Mazurka in G Minor, Op. 67, No.2.
Chopin confided to a friend on his deathbed thaqt he wanted these and all of the other unpublished works burned. He felt that he had not devoted due diligence to editing and completing these to his usual satisfactioin. It is thanks to his sister Ludwicka and his longtime associate and personal assistant Julian Fontana that these works were saved and published posthumously.
Color paintings seen in the podcast were a gift to the Kiepiura family by Polish artist Zofia Stryienska.
Marjan's Musical Soirées are presented by pianist Marjan Kiepura and narrator Jane Knox. Future podcasts will include a unique blend of music and conversation and feature artists that have been part of Marjan's own musical heritage. Music will include piano, opera, operetta and film.
