Managing Director

Boston Chamber Music Society (BCMS) is excited to announce plans for its 39th Season and to welcome two new member musicians who will join the BCMS roster this fall. The 2021-2022 Season will include ten, one-hour performances. Details regarding the format of eight concerts, traditionally performed at Harvard University’s Sanders Theatre, will be announced at a later time. The theater, where BCMS has held its series since 1983, is not yet ready to confirm outside events. “The dates are offered as a commitment to our series,” says Artistic Director Marcus Thompson, and BCMS plans to hold these concerts either in-person or online. The two additional special performances in December and mid-January will occur virtually only.

Audiences can expect to hear favorite works by Brahms, Mendelssohn, Mozart, as well as exciting new music including world premieres of three works commissioned by BCMS: Lowell Liebermann’s Sonata for Clarinet and Piano, Michi Wiancko’s Piano Quintet, and Joan Tower’s Viola Quintet “Purple Rain.” BCMS will also celebrate British composers and observe the anniversaries of Schubert and Saint-Saëns. Additionally, BCMS is thrilled to welcome two new member musicians. Romie de Guise-Langlois, clarinet, has appeared as a soloist with orchestras including the Houston Symphony, Burlington Chamber Orchestra, and Banff Center for the Arts. She has toured with Musicians from Marlboro and has appeared at numerous chamber music series including Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society, and the Kennedy Center. She is an alumnus of Ensemble Connect and The Bowers Program, and is Assistant Professor of Clarinet at University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Thomas Van Dyck, bass, has been a member of the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s double bass section since January 2013. An avid chamber musician and recipient of the Maurice Schwarz Prize at Tanglewood and the Lorraine Hunt Lieberson Prize, he has played chamber music at the Mostly Mozart Festival, New York City’s Town Hall and Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, Bay Chamber Concerts in Maine, and Kingston Chamber Music Festival in Rhode Island, among many others. He joined the New England Conservatory double bass faculty in Fall 2018.

Both Ms. de Guise-Langlois and Mr. Van Dyck have been frequent BCMS guest artists and will appear in concerts throughout the 2021-22 season. Their full bios are available on the BCMS website: https://bostonchambermusic.org/about-bcms/member-musicians
