Milica Cuckic

All the way from Serbia via Italy and USA, Milica Cuckic has been in the music business for 12 years. The industry has no secret for her, as she worked at key positions throughout her career.

She started in 2009 at record label System Recordings in New York city, in their PR department.

After a collaboration with Missy Elliott in 2010, she worked at a music publisher in Italy and moved to NYC in 2013 to pursue a dream of working in the US music market, after landing a job at notorious indie rock label Wind-up Records.

« I started working as the assistant to CEO and was introduced to all aspects of the record label - marketing, promotion, distribution, digital strategy, finance… » — she says.

During her time at Wind-up, Milica’s extensive background in international music publishing put her in front of its publishing and neighboring rights division’. In addition, she was responsible for managing the global neighboring rights business with Fintage House, based in Holland.

« Neighboring rights is one of the fastest growing and most complex revenue streams in the music industry and Ms. Cuckic is extremely knowledgeable in this field.  With the  recent  developments in the European court and  its impact on the digital music landscape, neighboring rights  are  set  to  become ever more important and lucrative to USA music creators. With her skills and expertise in this very specialized field, Milica is a significant asset to the American music industry. » — says Alan Galbraith, ex-GM at Wind-Up Records.

Milica currently works at BMAT, a music innovation company with a mission to index all music usage and ownership data. They are experts in monitoring and reporting music globally to help all parties of the music industry better their data operations and help artists get paid for their plays. She is responsible for directing and executing business development initiatives across the USA and Canada. She is in contact with both major and indie record labels, publishers and societies to educate them on expert  innovative solutions for music reporting and monitoring using their proprietary audio fingerprinting and matching technologies. In such capacity, she is at the forefront of bringing transparency and fairness to  the American music business.

Over the years, Milica Cuckic was invited to numerous conferences in the music business, such as SXSW, CD Baby DIY conference, MONDO NYC Conference, Indie Week Canada; she has been invited to join The Recording Academy and is a member of several respected organizations, such as The Association of Independent Music Publishers, and Women in Music.

With all that, and with the set of mind of giving back to the music community as well as emerging artists, Milica Cuckic is currently working on setting her own label, Inat Records, that she describes as a true passion project of hers :

« I've been wanting "an adventure " to call my own - where I can apply all my passion and expertise in the music business I've acquired during my career. I worked in the music publishing, record label, music festivals, now music tech and the piece missing is to really use all of that to launch careers of new artists and really dive into that creative process. The word “inat” is a concept that symbolizes “ an attitude of stubborness, proud defiance and self-preservation that is so powerful and can lead to an action that can be of detriment to even oneself. It speaks in a way about my resilience and stamina to stay in the music business despite all the odds.

More specifically, my goal with this label is to create an environment where multicultural unheard voices will have a platform to share their music/talents. It will not be genre specific but it will be global and without any boundaries - just like music. »
