Orchestra Miami Announces “New” Soloist for “Beethoven on the Beach” Free Livestream Concert Nov. 13Th
Orchestra Miami’s Founder and Artistic Director Elaine Rinaldi is excited to announce a “new” soloist for next Friday’s “Beethoven on the Beach” concert at the North Beach Bandshell. Originally, scheduled for March 13, 14 & 15th, then rescheduled for July 26th due to the Covid19 pandemic, the concert was to feature Chilean violinist Francisca Mendoza in Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concert in D Major, Op. 35. Then when the number of Covid infections continued to rise unabated in mid-July, the orchestra received word that Ms. Mendoza would be unavailable to perform. With just days to go before the July 26th broadcast, it might seem impossible to find a world-class soloist to step in at the last minute for such a demanding piece. However, Maestro Rinaldi has found an ideal substitute in Uzbekistan native Askar Salimdjanov. Says Rinaldi:
“A week before we were planning to perform the Beethoven on the Beach concert in July, our originally contracted soloist pulled out due to personal reasons, so I had to find someone good in a hurry. I reached out to Jill Arbetter, Executive Director of the Elmar Oliveira International Violin Competition. She highly recommended Askar. .I was thrilled that we would be able to offer an opportunity to this very talented young musician.”
Subsequently, the concert was once more rescheduled, due to Covid-19 concerns, to Friday, November 13th at 7 PM. The free performance will be broadcast live from the North Beach Bandshell in Miami Beach, without an audience in attendance. In addition to the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto, the performance will also feature Beethoven’s “Pastorale” Symphony N. 6 in F Major, Op. 68, conducted by Maestro Rinaldi.
Mr. Salimdjanov, 25, currently studies with Elmar Oliveira at Lynn University and has trained in Singapore, as well as his native Uzbekistan. He has been a featured soloist since the age of 12 with orchestras in Russia, Italy, Indonesia and Uzbekistan, and says he is “thrilled to be making my Orchestra Miami debut with the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto”. This concert is a part of Orchestra Miami’s Beethoven For Miami Festival which runs through March 13, 2021.
The festival features a wide variety of free and ticketed events, which can be enjoyed live in-person or in a livestream broadcast at home. Festival offerings include Beethoven Lives Upstairs from Classical Kids productions on November 8th at Pinecrest Gardens, “Symphony Sundays”, broadcast free over Zoom and Facebook, a variety of Chamber Music concerts and much more.
