C R Designs Announces the Launch of Represent Classical.com
Chicago, IL - C R Designs is excited to announce the launch of Represent Classical.com a new online news magazine featuring news, events, and resources for classically trained musicians and classical music professionals who are Black, brown, indigenous, and people of color (BBIPOC).
Christine S. Escobar, Represent Classical’s founder and editor, is a veteran print and online journalist and a Chicago news pioneer. She’s covered a number of high profile local and national stories over the years. Her work has been lauded in Simon and Schuster’s “The Huffington Post’s Complete Guide To Blogging” and “The New News” report by the Community Media Workshop. Additional mentions include National Public Radio (NPR), Kiwi Magazine, and Crain’s Chicago Business. Her personal and professional journey includes work as a community leader in anti-racism activism, music administration, and guiding the music education of her musician son and daughter.
Escobar believes Represent Classical will foster the appreciation, visibility, and industry opportunities for BBIPOC musicians who have been systematically excluded from the historical record and leadership of classical music organizations and educational institutions, having faced industry bias and targeted racism. In addition to news, Represent Classical will also include a forthcoming job board, a podcast featuring exclusive interviews of people of note in classical music, and a comprehensive events calendar.
“There’s no shortage of talented musicians who are BBIPOC, only a shortage of organizations and institutions willing to program these artists and recognize the works of these composers, scholars, researchers, and students.” Escobar says. “The time to elevate these musicians is long overdue. Beyond token statements of solidarity with Black Lives Matter and diversity, equity, and inclusivity, organizations and institutions are being called upon to acknowledge their biases and take action to remedy and proactively prevent the further invisibility of BBIPOC musicians. We hope that in some way our work at Represent Classical will aid in improving the classical music canon and future of the industry.”
Represent Classical chronicles the future of classical music and the news, events, and artistic and academic projects of classically trained musicians, composers, educators, students, administrators, and scholars who are Black, brown, indigenous, and people of color.
C R Designs is a digital services and information technology company.
