Symphony NH
Announces Revised 97th Season

"Music That Inspires"
Nashua, NH - Music, particularly live music, brings a community together and connects people in a way like no other. Symphony NH (SNH), like other cultural organizations, realizes this and understands the important role music plays in daily life. In keeping with New Hampshire state guidelines issued by Governor Sununu and the specific public health recommendations issued by the CDC, Symphony NH has announced its plans for moving forward with a revised 97th season.

The orchestra's 2020-2021 season, "Music That Inspires," which always included inspirational music by talented African American and female composers, has been carefully revised to meet the health and safety guidelines of re-opening during this time of COVID-19.

"Music That Inspires," the first season fully curated by Music Director Roger Kalia, offers a rich variety of works from around the world, from classical warhorses and rarely heard gems, to jazz and blues inspired works and modern works destined to become classics. Inspiration, hope and joy, as well as a sense of adventure are central to the season, with female composers and performers a part of the musical mix. Of special note is that symphony musicians are also highlighted throughout the season, both in orchestral and smaller chamber ensemble works.

From the popular folk song Amazing Grace to African-American composers Jessie Montgomery's Starburst and Valerie Coleman's Nonet for Winds and Strings, Duke Ellington's Selections from The Nutcracker Suite to George Walker's Lyric for Strings, Symphony NH celebrates the spirit of diversity in the arts. Receiving its SNH premiere is American composer Paul Dooley's The Conductor's Spellbook, originally slated for performance this past spring. Guest artists include Nashua Mayor Jim Donchess, Symphony NH's own Principal Flutist Kathleen Boyd, vocalist and Broadway star Rachel Potter, rising star violinist Timothy Chooi, and the fascinating Really Inventive Stuff, a company of classically trained performers.

Movie and opera buffs will enjoy "The Music Of James Bond And More" concert that concludes the season in late May 2021. New this season is the introduction of the Chamber Music Series, a series of concerts for smaller ensembles that shines a light on the talents of SNH musicians and allows for the inclusion of additional repertoire from varied composers during the season.

Also new this 2020-21 season is an online series entitled "Granite State Conversations with Roger Kalia."  This virtual bi-monthly series will feature SNH musicians, New Hampshire artists and civic and business leaders in conversations with Maestro Kalia, discussing topics ranging from upcoming orchestra concerts, meaningful landmarks in New Hampshire, the culture landscape of the Granite State and more.

Symphony NH offers concerts this season in its hometown of Nashua at the Keefe Center for the Arts, at Manchester's Dana Center at Saint Anselm College, and at the Concord City Auditorium. With the safety and health of its audiences, musicians and staff in mind, and to ensure the comfort and enjoyment of all, alternative exits and entrances based on venue seating locations will be introduced for each concert and seating will be spaced for social distancing. Season passes, rather than tickets, will be introduced for no-contact entry. There will be extra cleaning of the venues, and hand sanitizer will be available. As per NH State and CDC health guidelines, audience size will be limited for each concert, and masks will be required in the lobby, concert hall, and other public spaces of each venue. Digital program notes will also be available online a week before each concert.

Symphony NH's 97th season will open with a free, open air concert at Greeley Park in Nashua, where social distancing can be easily and comfortably followed. Details of the season follow below.

SYMPHONY NH
A celebrated source of innovation, inspiration, education and entertainment since 1923, Symphony New Hampshire is the premiere symphony orchestra of the Granite State. From its humble beginnings over 95 years ago as a mainly all-Nashua musician group that performed two concerts each season in the City of Nashua, the orchestra has since grown into a vibrant jewel in the cultural crown of New Hampshire. Today, concerts are offered not only in Nashua, but throughout Southern New Hampshire and in special performances around the region.

The organization heads towards its centennial milestone on April 29, 2023. Led by Music Director Roger Kalia, and comprising top musicians throughout New England, Symphony NH presents masterworks, choral extravaganzas, contemporary pieces and rare jewels of the orchestral repertoire.

Committed to its community beyond its popular concert series, the organization, through its Community Partnership program, offers music education programs that introduce students to instruments and live performances as well as helping to enrich existing music programs across Southern New Hampshire. Having served Nashua students for years, in 2016 the orchestra's educational scope expanded to Manchester, Concord and the Upper Valley. That same year Symphony NH also began community concerts in Nashua and Concord. In 2018 Adopt-a-School was introduced in Nashua and Carnegie Hall's Link Up program was added in 2019.
