soprano Keely Futterer singing Richard Strauss’s “Zueignung”
Tulsa Opera’s Staying Alive video series keeps the music alive amidst the shutdowns by bringing to viewers at-home performances from the company’s featured artists every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Next week begins with soprano Keely Futterer, a Tulsa Opera Filstrup Resident Artist, singing Richard Strauss’s lied “Zueignung” (Dedication / Devotion). She is accompanied by Lyndon Meyer.

Latest episode of James Conlon at Home (May 19)
In recent episodes of LA Opera podcast James Conlon at Home, Music Director James Conlon has been delving into the history of French playwright Pierre-Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais, his beloved character Figaro, and the renowned operas that sprang from his plays. Mr. Conlon started with The Barber of Seville (parts 1 & 2), as adapted by Rossini and Paisiello. He then moved on to a three-part exploration of Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro (parts 1, 2, & 3). Next week he turns to the final play in Beaumarchais’s Figaro trilogy—La Mère coupable—particularly in the context of John Corigliano’s The Ghosts of Versailles, which took the play as its starting point.
Building on the popularity of his pre-performance talks at LA Opera, Mr. Conlon launched this podcast amidst the coronavirus crisis in order to continue engaging the public with opera. Past episodes have focused on Debussy's Pelléas et Mélisande (parts 1, 2, & 3), Debussy and Wagner (parts 1 & 2), and the power of opera to inspire, heal, console, distract, entertain, and challenge (click here). Wu Man’s Pop Up Pipa goes back to Bach, this time in performance with guitarist Xuefei Yang, a fellow alumnus of the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. They each take one of the two parts in the composer’s Two-Part Invention No. 8 in F major. Additional episodes air on Monday and Friday.

performing Dvorák’s “Als die alte Mutter sang”

Pop Up Pipa with Wu Man: Episode 6: Wu Wei
Following episodes on Monday and Wednesday, next Friday’s episode of Pop Up Pipa features pipa virtuoso Wu Man improvising alongside Wu Wei, a virtuoso of different traditional Chinese instrument—the sheng. As Wu Man has done for the pipa, Wu Wei has been an ambassador for his instrument, bringing it into contact with diverse styles around the world.

Tulsa Opera concludes its week with mezzo-soprano Kristee Haney
in a selection from Sondheim’s Anyone Can Whistle
A year after appearing in Tulsa Opera’s production of The Little Prince, mezzo-soprano Kristee Haney makes a virtual return to the company via the week’s final Staying Alive video performance. She sings “With So Little to Be Sure Of” from Stephen Sondheim’s Anyone Can Whistle. Additional performances in this Tulsa Opera video series appear on Monday and Wednesday.

Every Saturday at 7:00 p.m. ET, violinist Jennifer Koh premieres new micro-works for solo violin as part of her and non-profit ARCO Collaborative’s Alone Together series. Twenty-one composers, most of whom have salaried positions or other forms of institutional support to carry them through this challenging time, are donating newly composed works to the project, while also each recommending a freelance composer to be formally commissioned. Minnesota Orchestra at Home
Recently featured as part of Minnesota Orchestra at Home: Principal Cello Anthony Ross and Principal Clarinet Gabriel Campos Zamora launched their new discussion series Sound Check on Monday, May 18, with special guests Music Director Osmo Vänskä and First Associate Concertmaster Susie Park.
Minnesota Orchestra at Home shares video, audio and educational materials through the categories of Watch, Listen and Learn, including videos from the Orchestra’s archives and newly-created “mini-concerts” directly from the homes of Orchestra musicians.
