Inside Music Academy announces incredible Faculty Lineup for their Virtual Summer Camps

April 30, 2020 | By Anthea Kreston
Director, Inside Music Festival

Cultivating Classical Music - Virtual Connections

When the American violinist Anthea Kreston worked with Kevin Tang for the first time in the summer of 2019, they were in Chengdu, China - the gateway to Tibet in Western China. After a week of daily lessons and group classes, Kevin’s father asked Anthea if they could continue lessons remotely. Over the course of the next 6 months, the world changed - Covid-19 took hold in China, and Anthea became concerned while Kevin was in lockdown, and his natural spark and optimism waned. She proposed something to his father - what about a daily Coronavirus Bootcamp - a project, and daily video assignments. Over the next week, his mood noticeably improved - and his violin playing grew by leaps and bounds.

And now, in North America and throughout the world, we find ourselves in exactly the same place as Kevin was in months ago - stuck inside, with parents worried about us, and with a seemingly smaller and smaller world. What Anthea did with Kevin is now what she does with her 40 students - from North America, Europe and Asia - lessons, Zoom recitals, group classes, video assignments. Our community grows together - our connections through music keep us healthy and engaged - striving to learn, to be better, and for emotional and intellectual fulfillment.

Whether you are in College, looking for a shot of intense one-on-one work with a leading international performer, a middle-school student looking to keep your chops up and to expand your skill-set, or a young player wanting to mix things up a bit, our program tailors to each and every musician’s needs. Daily Zoom recitals (you can invite your grandparents and friends), a chance to get out of your comfort zone and learn improv, take a chance and learn the basics of conducting, composition, blogging  or podcasting, our amazing faculty are here to guide you, inspire and open your minds to the amazing things that music can do to create an entire world for you.
