Parlando Presents: Dual Selves
Parlando is proud to present Dual Selves at Merkin Hall at Kaufman Music Center. The program on Thursday, February 27th at 8:00 PM includes Arnold Schoenberg’s deeply evocative Verklärte Nacht (Transfigured Night), Gabriela Lena Frank’s blazing Leyendas: An Andean Walkabout, and Franz Schreker’s poignant Intermezzo. The evening will include brief spoken interludes, providing historical and programmatic context to explore the relationship between music and certain dualities of self (nationality, traditions, and romantic relationships). The performance will be followed by a reception.
The evening’s performance of Verklärte Nacht will feature the Tony-nominated star of Broadway’s Jekyll and Hyde, Robert Cuccioli, reading the accompanying poem by Richard Dehmel.
Parlando was founded in 2019 by Ian Niederhoffer with the goal of bringing classical music to a broader audience by offering a welcoming performance format. Each performance integrates dialogue with historical and musical context through short classical programs to create an educational and accessible listening experience.
The venue is the wonderful Merkin Concert Hall at the Kaufman Center, 129 West 67th Street between Broadway and Amsterdam, beloved for its excellent acoustics and intimate setting. Premium tickets are $35, regular tickets are $25, and both are available for purchase at kaufmanmusiccenter.org.
