Dafnis Prieto, Frost School of Music professor, MacArthur Fellow, Grammy and Latin Grammy award winner, recently returned to his native Cuba, to perform his music for the first time in 20 years.  Emmy-nominated filmmaker Saleem Reshamwala (KidEthnic) joined to document this historic and emotional moment for the 10- minute short film, Regresar: Back in Cuba.

“During this emotional trip back to my native Cuba, I had the opportunity to reconnect with many of the teachers who influenced who I am today. The appreciation I feel towards them, is something that I will always treasure,” says Prieto.  “As an educator myself now, I know that the relationship between teacher and student is something that goes beyond the classroom, because there is an endless commitment, responsibility, and joy that is needed in order to connect, and truly teach.  Frost trumpet student Michael Rodríguez accompanied Professor Prieto on this special trip to Cuba.
