Quintet of the Americas Presents Queens Jazz Greats Concert at Corona’s Langston Hughes Library on September 28
Quintet of the Americas will present a Queens Jazz Greats concert on September 28 at Langston Hughes Library, 100-01 Northern Blvd., Corona, Queens, NY.
Quintet of the Americas, along with guest artists Earl McIntyre, bass trombone/ tuba player and arranger, Renee Manning, vocalist, and Carlos Maldonado, percussionist, will celebrate the artistry of Queens Jazz musicians as part of their Celebration of 40 Years in NY City.
This event will include performances of James P. Johnson's Carolina Shout for Quintet of the Americas alone, Fats Waller's Jitterbug Waltz, Billie Holiday's Now Baby or Never, Mongo Santamaria’s Afro Blue, Jimmy Heath's Gingerbread Boy, Cannonball Adderley's Autumn Leaves & Mercy, Mercy, Mercy and Dizzy Gillespie's Night In Tunisia. Earl McIntyre has created new arrangements of these works for woodwind quintet, trombone or tuba, percussion and vocals.

Founded in Bogota, Colombia in 1976, Quintet of the Americas has specialized in bringing music from the Western hemisphere to audiences in the United States since its arrival in New York in 1979. The group has enjoyed an international career that has taken them to concert halls throughout the Americas and Eastern Europe, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Symphony Space, and the Library of Congress. Members are Karla Moe, flute, Matt Sullivan, oboe, Ben Baron, clarinet, Barbara Oldham, horn and Sasha Gee Enegren, bassoon.
