Alon Goldstein - Scarlatti: Three Piano Sonatas

Alon Goldstein performs Scarlatti: Three Piano Sonatas. Recorded live at the Interlochen Center for the Arts

"Art of the Imagination," was inspired by the "infinite imagination" found in Domenico Scarlatti's 555 harpsichord sonatas. According to Mr. Goldstein, Scarlatti, in his sonatas "was able to create sound effects, rhythmic patterns, melodic lines, and harmonic clusters that recreated everything from street noises, flamenco dances, court dances, and more. I decided then to choose works that on the one hand owe some gratitude to Scarlatti’s immense contribution to the art of playing keyboard, and on the other hand have an extra element of imagination in them." The program features a wide range of works from Italian Baroque to Argentinean dance music and more. Favorites including Beethoven's "Moonlight" Sonata, selections from Debussy's Preludes, and Scarlatti sonatas are complimented by more exotic selections by Ginastera and Janácek.

The concert is at 7:30 pm on October 22, 2019 at Baruch PAC, 55 Lexington Avenue (enter on 25th Street between 3rd and Lexington Avenues, on the south side of the street) in the heart of Manhattan. Praised for its superb acoustics, the Rosalyn and Irwin Engelman Recital Hall has been called "a perfect hall for chamber music" by Anthony Tommasini of The New York Times. Tickets are $26 for general admission with discounts for students, and are available at www.baruch.cuny.edu/bpac/.
