Tatyana Dudochkin & New England Conservatory Prep School Present a Salute to Clara Schumann on her Bicentennial—an Evening of Music by Clara Schumann
New England Conservatory (NEC) Preparatory School and pianist Tatyana Dudochkin present the 29th annual Composer Celebration Series concert, A Salute to Clara Schumann on her Bicentennial. The concert features an all-Clara Schumann program of choruses, songs, orchestral works and chamber music. The performance also celebrates the 70th Anniversary of the NEC Preparatory School and will see the students and faculty playing side by side.
Hosted by WCRB’s Ron Della Chiesa, the performance will take place on Sunday, October 13, 2019 at 3pm at NEC’s Jordan Hall (30 Gainsborough St, Boston, MA 02115).
“Over the last 28 years I have always selected important composers for my Anniversary series and celebrated not only the full spectrum of their works with the top performers, orchestras and even dance companies, but also engaging their cultural community in Boston and beyond, including Spain, Italy, Armenia, France, Brazil among many in the U.S.,” says Tatyana Dudochkin, founder and Artistic Director of the Composer Celebration Series. “This time I am very excited to celebrate Clara Schumann who not only is an important composer of the romantic period, but also an outstanding pianist and an important gender equality ambassador for women. Clara Schumann is not only an excellent composer, but also an incredible woman, a mother of 8, and wife to Robert Schumann, whom she helped complete many compositions when he became ill. She was a true Renaissance woman who did it all. Clara deeply touched my heart and I hope she will also touch yours.”
The NEC Youth Philharmonic Orchestra will perform alongside professional musicians and NEC Preparatory School faculty to perform works by Clara Schumann, one of the most distinguished pianists and composers of her time. Her tender and lyrical works have prompted WCRB to call her “one of the brightest musical voices of her century.”
