NEW YORK, NY, January 24, 2019 – The journey continues for MidAmerica Productions.

MidAmerica’s 36th season at Carnegie Hall in New York City will run from Presidents’ Day weekend (Sunday, February 17) to Father’s Day (Sunday, June 16). Choral and symphonic ensembles from 31 states, China Canada, and Korea will share the legendary main stage with world-class musicians and singers.

“We have a bumper crop of talented guest conductors and performers from all over North America – and even choirs from Korea and China appearing with us for the first time!” enthuses Peter Tiboris, Founder and Music Director of MidAmerica Productions, who himself will lead the New England Symphonic Ensemble in Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony on May 11. “And mixed in with the great classics of earlier centuries that always feature in our concerts will be the music of more than two dozen living composers. We also are proud to be adding more notches to our various ‘premiere belts’ in 2019.”

MidAmerica Productions recognizes the importance of presenting new and recent music. For the 2019 Carnegie Hall season, living composers whose works will be heard include Marvin V. Curtis, Dominick DiOrio, Dan Forrest, Ola Gjeilo, Jocelyn Hagen, Linda Tutas Haugen, Mark Hayes, Morten Lauridsen, William Menefield, Kevin Padworski, Jake Runestad, John Rutter, Jim Taylor, Michael John Trotta, and Gwyneth Walker.

Seven works will be heard live in New York for the first time, one of which will be the first performance anywhere:

World Premiere

  • KEVIN T. PADWORSKI: Wanderlust (June 1, 7 PM)

 New York Premieres

  • MICHAEL JOHN TROTTA: Gloria(March 31, 2 PM)
  • DESSA & JOCELYN HAGEN: Controlled Burn (May 25, 7 PM)
  • WILLIAM MENEFIELD: Prism(May 25, 7 PM)
  • JAKE RUNESTAD: Into the Light (May 28, 8 PM)
  • DOMINICK DI ORIO: A World Aglow (May 28, 8 PM)
  • JIM TAYLOR: Cambridge Songs Suite No. 2(June 10, 8 PM)

MidAmerica’s Conductor Laureate, Composer John Rutter (called “The Composer Who Owns Christmas” by The New York Times), will mark his 127th performance with MidAmerica Productions on May 27, a Memorial Day “Rutter Gala” in which he will introduce selections from his newly published Oxford University Press anthology of Sacred Choruses, and also lead his own Gloria and his edition of Monteverdi’s Gloria. Throughout the season, other guest conductors will lead performances of several Rutter works, including the Gloria, Requiem, Magnificat and Mass of the Children.

Principal Guest Conductor Giuseppe Lanzetta will make his seventh appearance with MidAmerica Productions since 2006, leading Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony on the first concert of the season, Sunday, February 17.

“It’s been a wonderful journey of music making,” reflects Maestro Tiboris. “I’ve been doing this kind of presentation longer than anyone else in New York, yet I have to say, it never gets old. Each concert is a ‘dream come true’ for the many performers who will always remember their visit to New York City, and especially their time in Carnegie Hall. As we like to say, MidAmerica Productions changes lives one concert at a time.”

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

ABOUT MIDAMERICA PRODUCTIONS

Peter Tiboris created and conducted his first concert in New York on January 7, 1984, at Lincoln Center, featuring the American Symphony Orchestra, four vocal soloists, and three choruses: the Louisiana Chorale of Acadiana, Camerata Singers of Baton Rouge, and Collegiate Chorale of New York. He didn’t realize it at the time, but Mr. Tiboris had just created his own production company, MidAmerica Productions, which would go on to become the foremost independent producer of choral concerts in New York’s Carnegie Hall.

For 36 years, MidAmerica Productions has brought together conductors, soloists, and choral and instrumental ensembles from the U.S. and abroad to appear at New York’s top venues, including the Isaac Stern Auditorium/Ronald O. Perelman Stage, Weill Recital Hall, and Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall; and Alice Tully Hall and Avery Fisher Hall (now David Geffen Hall) at Lincoln Center. In addition to presenting instrumental and choral works, MidAmerica Productions has championed contemporary composers with approximately 92 World Premieres, 21 United States Premieres and 99 New York Premieres.

Additionally, MidAmerica Productions has presented concerts in numerous U.S. cities and in countries throughout the world, including Greece, England, Austria, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Portugal, Italy, France and Russia.
