For immediate release – Erato announces the release of acclaimed French violinist Renaud Capuçon’s newest album, Cinema, on October 12. Cinema features 19 iconic compositions from movie history ranging from the film classics of the 1930s to contemporary blockbusters.
“I have been wanting to make a recording of film music for some time,” says Capuçon, “Since the early days of cinema, music has transcended imagery and shaped our emotions.” With the help of Nolwenn Leroy and the Brussels Philharmonic, conducted by friend and colleague Stephane Denève, Capuçon brings this long-time goal to life with instantly recognizable themes from movies like Cinema Paradiso, Schindler's List, The Adventures of Robin Hood, Breakfast at Tiffany's, The Godfather, and The Twilight Saga: New Moon. Pointing to Cinema Paradiso as a possible seed for this project, Capuçon said, “Since the film came out in 1988, when I was 12 years old, I knew that I wanted to play it one day…So this album is something of a dream come true.”
The album features work by a wide range of composers including Andrea and Ennio Morricone, John Williams, Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Vladimir Cosma, and Alexandre Desplat. Such a diverse selection of movie and musical genres reflects Capuçon’s unique appetite for universally relatable, emotional content.
