(Wichita, KS – January 30, 2018) - Wichita Grand Opera announces auditions for its 2018-19 Season, and its 2019-20 Season! Auditions will take place on Saturday, April 21, 2018, at Wichita Grand Opera’s home venue, the Century II Performing Arts Center, in Wichita, KS.
The auditions are for applicants who wish to be considered for Principal Artist Roles, Resident Ensemble Artists (professional opera singers living in the region), Opera Academy of the Midwest (young aspiring singers), and the WGO Chorus. The opera repertoire for the next two seasons includes: Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Bizet’s Carmen, Bernstein’s Candide, Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci, and Gounod’s Romeo and Juliet.
Audition applicants are to submit the following materials to: Wichita Grand Opera, Century II Performing Arts Center, 225 W Douglas Ave., Wichita, KS 67202. Applicants will receive an Invitation to Audition not later than March 28, 2018. To be eligible for consideration, all materials must be received no later than 5:00pm, Thursday, March 22, 2018.

- Application Processing Fee of $25 made out to: Wichita Grand Opera (The Fee is waived for Chorus applicants)
- Cover Letter (Address letter to Mr. Parvan Bakardiev, Artistic Director)

- Reviews (if applicable)
Audition Invitations: Applicants who receive an Audition Invitation will be required to submit a $50 check deposit made out to Wichita Grand Opera, to reserve their audition time slot. The applicant’s check will be voided and returned when checking in at the Registration Table. However, if an applicant fails to appear for their audition, their check will be cashed, and it will be non-refundable.
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:
Principal Artists
- Experience: Applicants must have recent experience performing leading and/or secondary roles with professional opera companies.
- Requirements: 4 arias sung in their original languages, preferably from WGO’s upcoming opera repertoire.
Resident Ensemble Artists (local/regional professionals)
- Experience: Applicants must have experience singing with professional opera companies.
- Requirements: 4 arias sung in their original languages, from the standard or WGO’s opera repertoire.
Opera Academy of the Midwest (young aspiring singers)
- Experience: Applicants ages 18-34 who have studied and performed opera within their schools or university opera programs, participated in other young artist programs, and have had other performance opportunities.
- Requirements: 4 arias in 4 different languages from the standard operatic repertoire.
Chorus
- Experience: Applicants are expected to have experience performing with choirs and ensembles; have some vocal training, and possibly some experience with foreign languages.
- Requirements: One aria or art song sung in its original language – English, Italian, German, or French.
